A.D.D. meal planning and organization

I  diagnosed myself as slightly ADD some years ago. I have trouble with completing tasks because my mind gets a head of me and I easily start off on another track. It was with great joy that I found the Flylady.net organization and cleaning site. I have been using the techniques (sometimes not religiously) for about 10 years and I find this site so helpful when it comes to keeping the home in good shape.

I noticed this post today, so I thought I would share it with all you cooks out there. I thought it was one of the most simple strategies for meal planning. Hope it is useful to some of you. Aloha :)

Dear FlyLady,

I too am a calendar convert, and wanted to pass on a technique I use for menu planning.

I write each dinner entrée name and where I keep the recipe on the top of a Post It note, cut off just the sticky part so that I have a small sticky strip with the dinner on it, and stick that on the day of the week that I'm going to cook that dinner.

At the end of the week, I peel off each dinner and bump it up a few weeks on my calendar to a new date, unless no one liked it (LOL).

Then when it is time to menu plan for a future week, several days are already planned! Also, I can switch around the dinners in one week if I need to (like if I forgot a main ingredient and have to bump one meal down a day or two).

Works great!

I have never seen that site but I've heard it's great. I wish I was that organized. I almost had it the housecleaning covered till I got the new furbaby! Menus I do that loosely now. Ah perfection would be so nice to attain :)

Cat Hill, I will NEVER be perfect, but I like the way the flylady gets it all down to quick basics. It has taught me that I can do anything (almost) for 15 minutes. You actually start challenging yourself. I love the pix of the new baby. My Lily (avatar) is a non shedder so I have it easy in the shedding department. Hey...why don't ya come to Vegas for the AR get together?????

Candice, Mostly it is just the two of us now, but I do notice that I seem to run out of ideas, when in fact I have so many recipes that we LOVE. Hey, come to Vegas for the LV AR Blowout!!!

You have a very cute dog...is it a Havanese. Just wondering as I am a dog groomer. Also love the rest of your pictures

AHIMMERODER, Thank you! Everybody thinks Liliuokalani is a Havanese...but she is a Yorkie/Bichon (MUTT) and weighs almost 10 lbs. She is also a pain in the rear to groom. Where are you? I could use your help. LOL

About Me
I have been married for 43 years to the most amazing man on the planet. He is quiet and deliberate and I am NOT. We have one grown son (and his partner) that we adore. Because they work for the airlines they drop in on a flight frequently and we feel so lucky for that. We retired after 30 years at our careers from our native Olympia to Maui and now most recently retreated to Las Vegas to try to ride out this horrendous economy. We bought a small home here and I gutted it and am putting it back together, so I spend most of my time fine tuning the decorating and now I am plunging into a full tropical landscaping to remind us of our beautiful Maui. I miss the PNW, but NOT the weather. Miss the razor clams and the wild beaches of Washington and Oregon. Miss my friends too. Happy to have my friends from Allrecipes though. The four legged critter you see on my profile is a five year old yorkie/bichon who is the greatest little (9 lbs) girl ever. Quiet and calm, but so excited about life.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about anything...just mostly like the art of cooking and baking and sharing my art with friends and families. Love the smells that emanate from my kitchen and the familiar memories that come flooding back. The scents from my kitchen are probably my favorite thing in the house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother used to like to make a big deal out of almost any holiday, so I have followed through with that tradition. Valentine's Day, Christmas, St. Paddy's day, Thanksgiving, Easter, Oscar night are just a few of my favorite cooking traditions. Birthday parties for all my loved ones are something I love to do too.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I mastered sauce bearnaise, or raviolis from scratch or my first perfect cheesecake or my first wedding catering job or meeting Julia Child (about 25 years ago).
My cooking tragedies
(See above) Well....Julia was so cranky and rude it ruined my love of her.....so I sold all my Julia Child cookbooks (some of them signed) at a garage sale for $1.00 apiece. Now I wish I would have kept them of course. I guess Julia was just having a bad day:( & I was foolish of course.
