A little less sugar, a little more salt. Perfect!

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
The shortening helps the cookies from flattening out entirely, but since there is no acid in this recipe, baking powder would be a better choice than soda, I think. I second-guessed myself and made these with half soda and half powder. I bet they would be even more to my liking if I had gone with just powder.

Pumpkin Hummus

This is a real winner--my boyfriend and I loved it. And it's so easy to make, too.

Pumpkin Oatmeal

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2008
I almost doubled the amount of pumpkin in this recipe because I love the taste of pumpkin, and it was still not flavorful enough for me. I think this has the potential to be delicious but it could use some tweaking first.

Savory Breakfast Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2008
Yanno, I wasn't too impressed by these as-written, but I'm sure they could be great with a few mods. I'm thinking if I do these again, and I'm sure I will, I'll use more meat and substitute bacon drippings or lard for the butter. The problem, as it were, is that the batter is delicious but just tastes like dough, and the bacon and corn pieces are few and far between. I also second the reviewer who said these could be delicious with some green onions, which I plan to add next time.

French Leek and Ham Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2008
Delish! I made the potatoes much less creamy (used a little butter and some 1% milk instead of cream) and kept the skins on because I'm a freak who loves fiber, but I can see how this would be good with just the flesh of the 'taters. Too, I found the serving size a bit off; I halved the recipe and still got way more than what I would consider 6 servings. (Still working through the leftovers, to be honest!)

Kidney Bean Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2008
This was perfect with about half the mayo and twice the celery. That said, though, I can see why nobody's posted a picture--the salad looks rather unpleasant (but tastes fantastic, I swear!).

Sweet and Savory Kale

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2008
I totally messed with this recipe, but have to say that the essential greens/dried fruit combo was even better than I had hoped. We didn't have enough kale, so used half kale and half mustard greens, raisins instead of cranberries, and we forgot(!) the sugar but the final dish didn't seem to care. I don't understand, though, how to boil down the 1 1/2 cup chicken stock without overcooking the greens--we ended up removing the greens and cooking down the broth separately. Still, very tasty!

Squash Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2008
This was fantastic, my boyfriend and I loved it. I was out of celery so I threw in what I had on hand--it happened to be parsnips and was fantastic. Oh, and after sauteeing the vegetables, I simmered them in some sherry. Came out perfect.
