Peppermint Patty Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2013
These were a total disaster for me, even though I had high hopes for this recipe. And yes, I did follow the instructions exactly. Ended up with a hard and sticky mess on the bottom and an overly crusty top that crumbled everywhere. This was the 3rd of 3 different peppermint brownie recipes I've tried over the past month, and this one did not make the grade. Perhaps a much shorter cooking time would have been better? But as written, this recipe sure didn't work for me, and both of the other brownie recipes were so good that I don't think I need to try this one again.

Chococonut Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2012
Really good cookies. Made the recipe as printed and I thought the cookies turned out perfectly. I baked mine for 9 minutes, so the edges were a nice golden brown but the centres were still soft and chewy. My husband gave them two thumbs up and informed me that he "loves coconut."

Sticky Sesame Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
The first time I made this, I loved the flavour, but didn't like that the sauce seemed thin. Still, I would give it four stars. To make it even better, though, here's what I do: (1) remove from oven, (2) remove chicken and pour sauce into pan, (3) bring to a boil, (4) mix together 1/4 c cold water and 1 1/2 tbsp flour and whisk into the boiling sauce, (5) cook until thickened and pour over chicken. You may have to adjust the amount of flour, depending on the desired thickness and amount of sauce.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
Possibly the most delicious cookies I have ever made (and that's saying a lot). I made these with the filling in the recipe (using pasteurized egg whites) and I definitely wouldn't use anything else! Found that they tasted like pumpkin pie, but maybe even better. Used a small ice cream scoop to make the cookies a regular size and filled using a ziploc bag with the corner cut off. I baked them for about 10 minutes and they stayed very moist.

Marmalade Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: May 2, 2007
So easy to make! My husband, who doesn't cook much, made it no problem. The sauce was really tasty: sweet, but not too sweet because of the citrus flavor. We will definitely make it again. Our toddlers enjoyed it almost as much as we did.

Teriyaki Tenderloin

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2007
5 stars for ease of preparation, simplicity of ingredients, and tenderness. 4 stars for flavour. Great with potatoes, or cold in sandwiches the day after. The most tender pork tenderloin I've ever made.

Salmon Patties I

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2007
Definitely the best way to have canned salmon! My picky kids liked it, and so did my husband, who hates canned salmon. I used butter cracker crumbs in place of dried bread crumbs and added salt and pepper. This will appear on our menu frequently!

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2007
This is my "go to" salad recipe for company or potlucks. I usually toast the nuts and sesame seeds in the oven, which is neater and less greasy. I have been asked for this recipe many times, which shows that it's a winner! I have tried it without nuts and using Splenda in place of the sugar when making it for people with allergies and diabetes, but I personally find the recipe perfect as written. Try it out, and enjoy!

Pauline Werner's Beef Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
The best stew I have ever had! My whole family loved it. Super easy to make. Made the whole house smell terrific. With dinner rolls, the perfect meal for a cold evening. I usually add dried thyme - I think it adds a traditional "stew" flavour.

Goldy's Special Salad

I bought a bigger salad bowl so that I could make this salad again. I love the combination of mango and avocado - it tastes great and looks very colourful.

Super easy, and the flavour is great. I usually substitute pecans for the walnuts.

Bahama-Mama Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2005
When I make porkchops, this is almost always the recipe I use. The sweet and sour sauce is very flavourful. I even eat the pineapple (I don't like hot pineapple), because it suits this recipe so well.

Incredible Punch

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2005
I found this punch a little sweet, but the flavour is very good. I've made it for a couple of showers, and the punch bowl always empties.

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2005
I always get compliments when I make these potatoes. I usually don't add the butter, because I find that they're rich and flavourful enough with the cream cheese and sour cream. Making these ahead of time is a real time saver when people are coming for supper.

White Chocolate Covered Pretzels

I make these for parties. It's a nice combination of sweet and salty, and these are so easy to make. I prefer them without the sprinkles.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew IV

This is the best stew I've ever had! I add extra red wine, for extra flavour. I also add extra carrots - I quadruple the carrot amount from the recipe.

Grandma's Gingersnaps

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2005
Gingersnaps are my dad's favourite cookies, so I make these every Christmas. I like my cookies soft, so I only bake them for 8 minutes. These cookies are nice and moist, and have a great ginger flavour. My grandma even asked me for the recipe!
