Romanian Apple Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2015
I made this for my office birthday treat. Everyone liked it. This very simple cake can serve as a breakfast coffee cake treat or a dessert. It has a nice apple and spice flavor that everyone can enjoy. I used Granny Smith apples. I noticed that the dough was very stiff when I folded it into the baking pan. I worried that I had left out some liquid ingredient because it seemed so stickey. Don't worry, it poofs up nicely in the oven into a more cake-y texture.

Honey Sourdough

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2015
This was the first loaf I made with my new sourdough starter. I used all purpose flour instead of bread flour and added three tablespoons of oats as one reviewer suggested. I love the bread machine but hate the dough hook hole it leaves in my loaves. I set my bread machine for the dough setting and just made the doughball in the bread machine. Then I transfered the dough to greased loaf pan and allowed it to rise in a warm place for one more hour until about doubled in size.. Then I baked it at 350F for 35 minutes.

Chesapeake Bay Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2015
I was looking for a recipe for pork chops and made these because the wife really likes seafood seasoned with Old Bay. We both really liked these. She said it had that really great grilled flavor that you get when you order a grilled meat entree at a restaurant. I don't think the vinegar or the Old Bay Flavors were too pronounced. I thought it was a nice, flavorful, "goes with anything marinade". I am sure I will make this again.

Reshmi Kebab (Silken Kebabs)

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2014
This had a very good flavour. It had a lot of zing from the jalepenos but not too much heat. I changed the 1/2 cup cream to 1/4 cup cream and 1/4 cup yogurt.

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2014
I found that the cooking time listed was not long enough. I had to cook it longer until it was done. I was dispappointed in this. It was tasteless and bland. I have had a lot better pork barbeque, even from the slow cooker before.

Basil Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2014
I made this recipe as directed with no changes. I did not think that the mustard flavor was too strong, as some others suggested. The strong mustard aroma of the marinade mellowed on the grill and I mostly tasted the basil and the shrimp in the finished dish. This was a mildly spiced shrimp that would pair nicely with just about any side.

Apple Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2014
Nice cake. I replaced the apples with canned peaches and the liquid from the peaches replaced the orange juice.

Keon's Slow Cooker Curry Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2014
I was skeptical because of the canned soups, but intrigued. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of this dish. I substituted half n half and yogurt for the coconut milk. I agree with some other reviewers that the leftovers a few days later were even better.

Chicken Wild Rice Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2014
Made for work "souper bowl" luncheon. Everyone liked it. I think the Sherry added at the end adds a lot to the final flavor. It helps, as one reviewer suggested, to have the wild rice and chicken already pre-cooked.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2014
These were great. I used 1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 white flour and used dried apricots instead of raisins. I added 1/4 cup chopped pistachios. This is a great base recipe to customize to your tastes as many other reviewers have done.

Southern Biscuits with Mayonnaise

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2013
These biscuits were hard to mess up, in my opinion. The dough was easy to mix together and the biscuits came out soft and delicious. I did make my own self-rising flour by adding 1 tsp salt and 3 tsp baking powder to all-purpose flour. I also used an olive oil mayonnaise. Neither of those things detracted from the final product. Mine cooked a little faster than the 20 minutes. I have a convection oven and 16 minutes at 400 degrees was perfect. Thanks for introducing me to this "new" way of making biscuits.

Corn Pudding II

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2013
I cut the recipe in half. I took another reviewer's suggestion and baked for 55 minutes. It was a little moister than a lot of corn puddings I have tried. It was a little bland too. It was easy to make though.

Sonny's Vegetarian chili #1

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2013
Nice flavor. The vegetarian burger crumbles give the chili the texture of the meat version. The dried chilis give a great chili flavor. The crock pot makes it easy. Very low in fat yet satisfying bowl of chili.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2013
I made this exactly as written. It was excellent. Other recipes for this type of coffee cake can sometimes be too dry. This had a nice firm texture that was easy to cut and serve, yet was moist and delicious. Must be all that butter and sour cream.

Curry Root Vegetable Pot Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
I made my own pie crust instead of the puff pastry. I roasted the veggies and heated the stock and milk as described. Then I made a roux with the butter and flour and added curry and onions. Then drizzled in the milk and stock. Then added the sauce to the veggies. I enjoyed this very much and will make again for sure. Yumm!

Spicy Shrimp and Grits

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2012
I omitted the salt and drained the rotel as some other reviewers suggested. I also added a tablespoon of cajun spice to the shrimp as I sauted. This was excellent!

Whole Wheat, Oatmeal, and Banana Pancakes

Reviewed: May 27, 2012
These are seriously good pancakes! I did make a few alterations that I felt worth mentioning. I had two squishy bananas, so I added both. I did not add the milk powder like others have indicated. I added two eggs because our farm eggs are small. The main change was that I only added one cup of milk. I think the batter would be way too thin. With my changes, the batter was exactly as I liked it. They cooked wonderfully. The taste was great and banana-y. I topped mine with strawberry syrup that I made. It was sublime. This recipe is a keeper.
