My favorite things to cook
I love to bake--my family really likes cakes--especially 6-layer chocolate cake, lemon pound cake, sour cream pound cake. I love to decorate my kids' b-day cakes, though I've never taken a class. They don't care--the cakes look great to them! Last year, for instance, my son wanted a treasure chest b-day cake. So I baked two sheet cakes, cut them in half, frosted them w/ chocolate frosting, but trimmed the top layer to look like the rounded top of a chest. I scooped out a little of the third layer and filled it w/ candy gold coins. I thought it looked lop-sided and messy, but my son was thrilled!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from two great-cooking families, but they cook in very different ways. My father took my mother to his mother so she could teach mom how to cook! My mom was an excellent cook--even made her own marinara sauce for spaghetti (I cheat and get mine out of a jar!). But for me, I want to follow in those women's footsteps and provide good home-cooking for my family.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving turkey and the 6-layer chocolate cake are two that come to mind.
My cooking tragedies
Thanksgiving turkey and the 6-layer chocolate cake! I had to make mistakes in order to make them the best I possible can!

Chocolate Gravy I
I use milk, too. And I cook it in the microwave and stir it every two minutes until it's thickened.

Chocolate Gravy II
You can cook this in the microwave, too. Just stir every two minutes until it's thickened. My grandmother was SO glad that she would no longer have to stand in front of the stove, stirring and stirring! (She had to make huge batches of this for us grandkids!)
