About this Cook
I am a pseudo student living with my fiancé, a handicat, a guinea pig, and a tank of aquatic critters. I love science, art, gardening, and baking. I recreate recipes to make them gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan because I have a gluten allergy (along with other food allergies) and I don't eat meat or much dairy. My mom taught me to bake and I love making cookies!
My favorite things to cook
My absolute favorite thing to bake is sugar cookies. Decorating them is the best part and any holiday is a good excuse for frosted sugar cookies. I also love making stir fry with fresh chard from the garden, a bit of butter, and garlic. I also love making country style potatoes with fresh rosemary and pepper and soups. I miss having a garden full of goodies. I also enjoy Sunday crepes with strawberries, yogurt, and powdered sugar.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Kolache! We always make them during Christmas time along with fudge, Christmas canes, and caramels. Every Monday night at my parents' house is cookie night so my fiancé and I try to make something sweet on Mondays, though sometimes we just get frozen yogurt down the street.
My cooking triumphs
I won a blue ribbon at the Humboldt County Fair years back for my divinity. I also won a rice cooker! Any time I make a good tasting gluten free recipe I am excited. Anything that isn't burnt is also a big plus for me, though I am getting better about not charring my cooking creations.
My cooking tragedies
I left a gross cake mix in the oven the morning of my Christmas party. It wasn't cooking fast enough before work so I stupidly turned the oven up ot 500° and forgot about it when my fiancé and I went to town. I remembered I had left the oven on so the fiancé went home to turn it off. Needless to say the pine tree shaped cake was like the surface of Kilauea and my fiancé pulled it out of the trash and displayed it to all out guests.

Costas French Market Doughnuts (Beignets)
This is a great recipe. I had no idea what these things were but I thought I'd try them as I had a wild hair to make doughnuts and found this. I made them gluten free and they turned out great. I tried some baked for less fat (NOT a good idea) and I burned a few as I'm not yet oil smart. Overall, very delicious and I'm really happy they actually taste good gluten free! Thanks for sharing, this will definitely be a cherished recipe when I get the frying down right!
