I'm a pretty "boring" person. I just turned 26 and have been married for a year and a half. I am loving getting to spend my life with my best friend...It's been tough at times, but we are always trying our best to learn and grow and build a great foundation that will help us have a long and happy marriage. I work in the medical field as a Billing Coordinator and I love it. We are building our own business, so any spare time that we have is spent on trying to make that a success. We stay pretty busy between work, church, work, etc, so I am trying to cook healthier and make easy and quick meals.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes that are delicious, easy, and healthy. I also love cooking family recipes, especially things that my grandmother used to make, because they remind me of great memories from my childhood and help me to feel close to her even though she has passed on.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Thanksgiving we make family recipes, from my great-grandmother's giblet gravy to my granny's cornbread dressing to my mom's chocolate pies. At Christmas, my mom, my little sister, and I usually get together and make fudge, chocolate covered PB crackers, and other candy.
My cooking triumphs
Last Christmas Eve was my first Christmas as a married woman. I decided to have my parents and my in-laws over for dinner. I was very nervous, but everything turned out really well. We had ham and all of the traditional sides...Everyone had a good time and loved the food, so I felt very happy and proud that I had cooked my first big meal. This year, we again had the family over on Christmas Eve, but I made all kinds of appetizers and candies (most of which I had never made before). Again, everything turned out great and I enjoyed spending time with my family.
My cooking tragedies
The first thing that comes to mind is my Garlic Cheese Biscuits (like those at Red Lobster). I didn't watch what I grabbed, and instead of grabbing Bisquick, I grabbed Pancake mix. I pulled them out of the oven and was like, that doesn't look right...LOL They were so nasty! Cheesy garlic...pancakes. Yuck. Most of my cooking "tragedies" haven't really been that horrible (thankfully, knock on wood), but I'm sure as I continue to experiment, there may be some on the horizon :)
