Balsamic Tortellini

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2013
so I used a 24-oz pkg of tortellini, kept it at one large onion, doubled the cheese and balsamic, and used 10 slices of regular bacon. I also added 6 oz or so of spinach with the onion, and sauteed those separate from the bacon. That much bacon takes a long time! the end result was good but not amazing. I agree with another poster that the cheese hardly comes through and isn't worth adding. Maybe if it was shredded instead of grated? probably wouldn't make again.

Orange Lobster Tail

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2013
made this for Valentine's Day. took the whole 15 min. the lobster itself didn't absorb much of the flavor, but we kept it on the stove after we pulled out the lobsters and it made for a great dipping sauce.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
I halved this recipe and still got a dozen donuts and about 15 donut holes. Despite the fact that the initial yeast foamed, I didn't get a ton of rise. I used my KitchenAid mixer with the dough hook like other reviewers did. I let it go for an hour in the sun of the backyard and it rose a little. I used a 2.75" opening drinking glass for the large hole and a 1.5" cap for the little hole. I added minimal flour as I worked the sticky dough. Back outside to rise again, but I really don't think anything happened at all. When I made the glaze, the powdered sugar eventually took all of the liquid and formed a few large clumps - after I added some hot water it thinned out just fine, though. I only made 3/4 of the 1/2 for the glaze and that was still more than I needed. Frying the donuts was easy enough, glazing worked fine. They tasted good and all, but the whole process wasn't worth the time and work. I might try them one more time just to attempt Boston Cremes or jelly-filled, but otherwise, no go.

Pudding Chocolate Chippers

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2013
these turned out a little crispy. in their defense, I used chocolate pudding mix instead of vanilla because that's what I had. They also needed 12-14 min instead of 10.

Easy, Cheesy Tortellini Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2013
This worked out really well! I tried to half the recipe but worked with what I had - 10 oz of tortellini, 7.75 oz six-cheese marinara, 7 oz poblano alfredo. I added 1.5 chicken breasts that I cooked in butter with garlic powder and skipped the spinach because Costco was out, hope to try that too next time. Needed to broil about five minutes. end result was awesome!

Banana Loaf

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2013
this was magic. The only change I made was going half brown sugar and half white sugar. This bread rose nicely and was just fantastic. My husband took some to work and his coworkers loved it, too. I've tried a few banana bred recipes from this site now, but this is the one I'll keep!

Green Beans with Bread Crumbs

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2013
I thought that these were great. Hubby was a little less enthused but he'd give it another try. I did accidentally add the parmesan into the mix instead of adding it on top. Regardless, make sure you don't over-cook the beans.

Cheeseburger Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2013
the end product was pretty good. Not gourmet, but nice on a cold night. I had the flour and butter smooth, but in adding the milk I got tons of lumps and had to strain the liquid before adding to the big pot, which was a little annoying. If anyone was interested, it took 4-5 potatoes to reach 4 cups of cubed. In the future, I'd go with a sharper cheddar.

Balsamic Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2013
marinated about 20 hours. olive oil got clumpy in spots so left that part out when I poured marinade into baking dish. Added a tablespoon of minced garlic and a quarter of an onion, sliced. turned out well, I'd make it again. just not too often because the balsamic IS strong.

Garlic-Lemon Double Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2013
that was a winner. followed directions exactly, though did cut it down for two people. needed 33-35 min in the oven but was cooked just wonderfully. too much breading mixture, though. would think about making less.

Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2013
good in theory, not in reality. hubby nor I cared for the mustard in this - too overpowering.

Jeff's Chili Con Queso

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2013
instead of the two-cheese-blend, I used Velveeta like some other users. I also used homemade chili instead of canned, but otherwise kept the recipe the same. We loved it! In the future, we'd add more hot sauce.

Meatball Sandwich

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2012
I only made the meatballs to go in spaghetti, so this doesn't have to do with the sandwich part. My husband and I found the meatballs boring and unflavorful. wouldn't make again.

Pumpkin Custard Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
I loved it. I thought it was a great spin on pumpkin pie, but I'd add more spices next time. The pumpkin-pie-lovers at the table weren't as big on it... it was too "light" for them to get their traditional fix. I think it would make a great parfait as well.

Creme de Menthe Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
these went over fantastically! I made the brownies the night before to cut prep time on Thanksgiving, then added the two layers of topping the next day. I suggest you refrigerate them again after the chocolate layer because they're difficult to cut unless they're fairly hard.

Cranberry Sauce I

everyone liked these okay, but I thought that the sauce would have been thicker. maybe I should have left more of them pop?

Carrots in Dill Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2012
I used baby carrots instead of cutting up big ones. I cooked them for 30-35 minutes but the liquid was all still there and I had to drain them. Everyone thought that they were cooked just right but the flavor wasn't there. wouldn't make again.

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2012
halved the recipe, put it in an 8"x8", and used some extra parmesan. plus, rigatoni instead of ziti because that's what I had. otherwise, followed exactly. It was a little liquidy but otherwise delicious. maybe I'd drain the beef and onions before adding the sauce next time?

Pesto Cheesy Chicken Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2012
I didn't do them as rolls - just as chicken with pesto and mozzarella, as other users have described. found it bland and boring. will not repeat.
