Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
I made this recipe exactly as listed and this does not taste like the homemade gingerbread that i grew up on. It had practically no ginger flavor. Essentially, it tasted like Molasses Bread. I'm afraid to make it with more ginger because I don't know how much more I would need to add to make it taste like gingerbread.

Garlic Wine Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
I was really surprised at how bad this was. Way too much lemon -- it didn't taste good at all. I made it as written and will not be making it again. Sorry!

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
Very Easy, Tastes Good. I'm a novice at baking. This was the 1st time I've ever made anything with just egg yolks - lol. I halved the recipe but did everything else exactly and this cake is very very good. I was surprised. It has an excellent consistency/feel to it. Its a light crumb, but not quite as light as angel cake (one reviewer said this and it doesn't taste that light to me). * If you are used to box cakes this cake may not be for you, but I still think you should try it and dump the box. Box cakes are so artificial tasting. I will be using this recipe for my birthday cake! lol Really nice and really easy. Thanks, David.

Thai Chicken Curry with Pineapple

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2011
I'm not sure what kinds of Thai curry some of these 5 star reviewers have had, but based on what my mother's Thai friends have made for me, this doesn't even come close - lol. That said, it's not a bad recipe. Just not the kind of thai curry that I'm used to. It was way too bland for my liking and I don't think I will be making it again.

Coriander and Cumin Rubbed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2011
I made this exactly as stated and it came out really good. This is a quick, simple pork rub and it goes really well with Basmati rice. One side note: as listed it's a bit too salty for me, but next time I will reduce the salt to half. ** Really nice, basic recipe that you can throw together in a pinch. A keeper!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2011
THIS IS A KEEPER - BIGTIME. I made this recipe exactly as stated and loved it. I recommend that you make a double batch to pour over the chicken once it has baked as the original sauce you pour over the chicken while baking becomes diluted with the juice that drains from the chicken. I loved it, my husband loves it, his colleagues love it and my mother loves it. Excellent. I will never purchase Teriyaki sauce in a grocery store now that I have this recipe.

African Curry

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
Not having ever tasted African Curry before, I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that there would be a bit more zing to this recipe. I found it to be awfully bland. After sitting in the frig over night, it definitely tastes better as the chicken was allowed to marinate in the curry sauce, but still a so-so recipe.

Bob's BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
I thought this recipe as is was OK. It basted well on baked chicken and added flavor, but I found the taste a bit bland as most bbq sauces often have a bit more zing to them.

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
Absolutely divine. This recipe is one of the best curried chicken recipes I have ever tasted. Better than most even in restaurants.

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2011
This recipe is not good as is. It needs modifications. With modifications I would say it is a 4 star recipe. My changes: 1 c milk, butter vs oil, add 1/2 tsp of baking soda, 1 c chocolate chips, add 6 oz of either plain or vanilla yogurt. With these changes, the muffin was lighter and not as dense which I'm fine with. It was also more moist. I still feel like it's missing something and I'm not quite sure what it is, but it was tasty enough after my modifications that my husband and I went back for seconds. lol

Extra Easy Hummus

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
this is nice exactly as is. If you want it spicy, you may have to add more cumin or pepper or something, but for a nice, mild hummus -- this is great. Very easy.

Marinated Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
Were the chicken breasts tender after following this recipe exactly? Yes. Were they tasty? So so. I expected a bit more flavor or zing to this marinade (I marinated the breasts for 10 hrs) but the flavor was rather bland. I will try it again altering the recipe by adding more and fresh garlic and by adding more horseradish and see what that does. This recipe is worth keeping and using, but not a spectacular one like so many others have rated it.

Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
I was stunned at how good this was and how simple it was to make. I did everything exact except I left out the raisins. I loved this and will add this to my permanent recipe box.

I like this recipe just ok as it is, but when a couple of teaspoons of vanilla extract is added much more flavor pops out!

Vegan Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2008
I am absolutely stunned. This has got to be one of the best chocolate cakes I have ever tasted and I am not exagerating. I am not vegan but work in an environment where there are mostly vegans. We had a potluck and I found this recipe on NPR. I looked at the ingredients and thought that this cake was going to be absolutely nasty... OMG was I wrong! This is the moistest, most dense and chocolatey chocolate cake ever. I have tasted a many chocolate cakes in my life and there are bakeries that don't come close to how good this is. You can either use water or soy milk. I made this cake twice and used water for 1 and soy milk for the other and they were both delicious. Make this. You will not be disappointed and if you don't tell anyone it is vegan, believe me... they will not know!
