About this Cook
I'm learning to cook before I get married. I love to bake, and it's inspired me to go to culinary school. I'm super excited about that. They only gave me the option of picking southern food, but I have a real interest in Cajun/Creole cooking. This is some of the richest food you will ever eat! I've fallen in love with the cuisine here!
My favorite things to cook
I love baking cakes!!! I'm hoping one day to own a bakery where I can create wedding cakes. Really, any baking is an interest there. I hope to try breads/rolls from scratch soon...I just like to bake!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hodge-podge! Creating! I love that I can look in my pantry and find a meal, even if there is nothing there. My mother-in-law is always impressed when I do that.
My cooking triumphs
I have practiced creating my own wedding cake. I am very excited that I will get the chance to prepare it myself. The test came out wonderfully and my family can't wait until I try it out again!
My cooking tragedies
The first cake I ever made from scratch was not light and airy as it should have guess is the baking powder was old and the cake never was horrible!!! (But, my family still ate the whole thing!)

My Favorite Green Bean Casserole
This is a new staple in our family! I made it for Easter and it was quickly requested for future holiday meals and of course, I'm happy to oblige. My notes on the recipe are this, omitting the butter with the crust is a perfect, it's definitely too much butter with it (particularly for my health-concious sister-in-law). It's also great because for me because I can easily eat around the mushrooms that everyone else in the family enjoys. I don't like the texture of mushrooms and the traditional GBC with cream of mushroom soup is unpleasant because I can still feel the texture of the mushrooms. This recipe is perfect because I can make the mushrooms large enough for me to avoid and the family LOVES the large mushrooms. My biggest note is, this makes a 9x13 pan that's pretty full. We had 10 adults eating it at these meals and there is NO need to double the recipe. We always have enough for the meal and leftovers. This recipe is now a family tradition in just one year and it's so easy, I don't mind. Thanks for a great recipe that makes everyone in our family happy!

Tiramisu II
This was WONDERFUL! I made this for my MIL for her birthday and she raved about it! I did do some things differently and would do some things differently next time...and I promise, there will be a next time! The big change I made this time was to use less Rum. Most of my family drinks, but not often. And one of us doesn't drink at all because he doesn't like the taste of alcohol. So, I used half of the listed rum. I also followed all of the reviews and gave it 24 hours to set and when all was said and done...delicious! I can't wait to make it again. Next time though, I will use less rum again. I used 1/2 of the recommend rum this time and I would us 1/4 of what the recipe calls for next time. It was still too strong. Also, I would mix the whipped cream into the custard created. I will also add a little more sugar too, several people said it was just not quite sweet enough. Overall, a great recipe. I can't wait to make it again. (Really who doesn't like it when they can make the MIL happy?)
