I've been gone a while, though I did just check my last post, and commented back, thank you all for your interest! In the last week, I did make a "trifle" type dessert (in my new footed bowl,) which did not last very long! I use the term "trifle" very loosely, as I tossed into the bowl what I had on hand... I've been rather pre-occupied these past weeks...

Saturday, after much shopping around - Jason works with a number of car dealerships in Scottsdale, I finally chose a "new" SUV that I wanted to look at... Well, I drove the darn thing home, and am now wondering what I am to do with my "other" car! I now own a 2008 Ford Edge, which is as big as a house, compared to my Chrysler, but I must admit that what little I've driven the Ford, I sure am liking it! <

It is a "top of the line," and has all of the toys many probably expect, but many of which I have no clue how to use, but then do I really need them, if I don't know how to use them?

So, after a couple of weeks of more "fast food" than I usually eat in a few months, I'm back to cooking... though I do have to pause from time to time, look out the front window... just to see if I REALLY did buy this car!

So, since we are still in "triple digit" daytime temps, I must get back to "no cook" desserts.... I bought two packages of "chocolate sandwich cookies," which I discovered today one is almost empty, thinking no bake pie crust... I did buy whipping cream, and half & half to whip, or make ice cream, and do still have a pkg. of chocolate pudding mix... I hear a choc. cream pie in the near future! Or, perhaps an ice cream cake? Maybe a combination of both.... I do have the cream to make ice cream now, and could add that to the mix! Perhaps I will just open the pantry, and go nuts! (Walnuts, Pecans, Almonds...)

Crazy is, as Crazy does... Be well, all, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Good morning Stevie, enjoy you new SUV. It has been getting here the last few days, almost tempted to start using the wood stove. Have a great day.

It finally cooled down here with much needed rain so I made soup. Enjoy your new car!

Sadly, summer has sung its swan song here too. Enjoy your new car, but drive safe!

Judy, great to hear from you! Time for another dessert, but also time for insurance co. etc for the "Edge." A vehicle to tote "foods" if the catering comes to be???? Doubt that, but still, I LIKE it lots! Be well, friend!

manella, I'm envious that you have a wood stove!!! Tell me more, do you cook on it? I did hot dogs, baked beans, on the grill tonight - love indirect cooking on the grill. Guess I could put an outdoor wood stove outside, but wood is very expensive here, as we have so few trees! Be well, and take care!

Cat, we finally had a "wet" weekend recently - also much needed! The car is great... no groceries in the front passenger seat today! Made soup 2 weeks ago and put it all in the freezer! (the beans are hi in iron, which I could use right now, but it's just not "soup" weather yet!) Be well, and enjoy your change in climate... I'm waiting...!

Lela, I doubt that i'll ever learn about all of the gadgets! So far, all I've been able to do is work the headlights, mirrors, adjust the steering wheel, and turn on the radio... what more do I need? Be well~

BigShotsMom, I drove the car Sat night, and didn't leave again until Mon evening... Also, I always drive assuming that the folks around me are idiots! Is that fair? Maybe not, but keeps me safer! Sorry that your summer is past, but that is to be expected, I guess. I'm awaiting cooler days (today 106.) Maybe next month! Be well, and hope that all is good for you!

SCC: Congratulations on your new ride! Yours looks very nice. I once drove a Ford Edge as a rental car, and I was quite happy with it. (I know what you mean about the gadget controls because I had to pull over when it started raining to figure out the windshield wipers. Embarassing; huh?) I made homemade ice cream last week. The entire batch has been gobbled up already.

bikerfamily, too funny! I wasn't sure how to turn on the headlights the other night! Nice ride, for sure... Homemade ice cream... hmmm... I'm kinda "after dinner" hungery! Dang it! Be well, and good to hear from you!

Oh Stevie, you crack me up! Looked at your profile and the meatloaf story took me back a few years! The son said "Mom! The oven is on fire! I said "No it's not." Turned around and there was the grease fire. Over filled the loaf pan and the grease hit the bottom of the oven. Thank goodness the baking soda was nearby. Sprinkled that stuff on and I swear that fire RAN from the baking soda. Had a couple other grease fire adventures since then (spanning 30 years). I keep that baking soda next to the stove!

LOL, redly! A friend of ours has always said that if you want to remodel the kitchen, simply "have a kitchen fire!" thanks for sharing!

About Me
Started cooking many years ago, and learned as I went. First meal may have been "steak & chips" at age 15, in Birmingham England, where I lived for several years. Mostly grew up in MI, transplanted to the desert 30yrs ago, or so. Favorite cookbook is "Better Homes", also enjoy "Great British Cooking, a well kept secret." Hesitate to call myself "expert," but friends do rave...
My favorite things to cook
Italian has been my "specialty" for some time, and my "signature" meal is Lasagne, salad, garlic bread, which I first made 20yrs ago... from SCRATCH, very first time I made it. (Never again, folks...) Now start with a big jar of sauce!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanks to my heritage, I have enjoyed trying foods from different cultures. We still have beer battered fish, and chips of course; ground meat dishes often, chicken occasionally, pork too. I would love to submit a bean dip recipe, however, my ex who gave me the original has passed, and I have no way to verify that it didn't come from another source! I also enjoy British cooking (with a few yankee twists) and once made Plum puddings, also known as Christmas puddings, as far as I know... what an ordeal that was, but well worth the effort. Today, there is mail order!
My cooking triumphs
Greatest triumph was not too long ago, when I held a sit down dinner for 12, Lasagne being the entree. It was a fund raiser I chose to sponsor, and am proud to say that "we" raised over $1000 from that meal alone, minimum donation being $25. All proceeds collected were donated; my partner and I provided the meal and beverages.
My cooking tragedies
MEATLOAF of all things! Went through a stage of "winging" it each time, and I pulled one after another out of the oven that were almost unedible. As yet, not too big on baking... no sweet tooth here! Have dabbled, but find doughs/pastries especially difficult, perhaps as it's 90 degrees in my kitchen much of the year.
