Dream a little Dream

If you're like me, dreams are always  so fragmented that they make little to no sense, and can rarely be remembered... only bits and pieces.  This morning, I awoke from a dream, looked at the clock, and jumped out of bed.  Can't say that I was "ready" to get up, but the clock told me that I was missing needed time.  Pieces of the dream stayed with me, and as what I could recall took place in the kitchen, I tought I'd share, briefly.

In my dream, I was in a "familiar" kitchen - not my REAL kitchen, but a kitchen.  I was preparing the evening meal for my family... mom and my sisters would be home soon.  Reality, Mom lives 2000 miles away, and I have only one sister!  Of course, one step every cook takes from time to time, is to preheat the oven.  Prep work having reached the place it had, I turned the oven on, and set about finishing up with the dish, or dishes, that I needed to bake.

It wasn't too much later, that I noticed the smell of something burning.  I'm not talking a piece of meat on the grill that was beginning to char... I'm talking FLAMES within the oven chamber!  Once I grabbed my hot pads, I opened the oven door, only to learn that there was indeed something on fire in the oven.  Apparently, I had parked my car in the oven, and had forgotten!  It was a black Mercedes Sedan, the interior was on fire, and the paint beginning to burn off!  Whatever could I do?  I simply MUST get the car out of the oven before anyone came home!  How could I explain to my family that I'd burned up my car, because I had forgotten that it was in the oven?

Now, I'm concerned.  Should I call for the men in white to come and take me away?  However could I have stuffed a CAR into the oven?  Or WHY, for that matter!  Still, a word to the wise... before you turn on your oven to preheat, check the driveway to make sure your car's out there, not parked someplace "stupid!"

Be happy, be healthy, be crazy - well sort of, anyway!

Top of the morning, Crazy Stevie . . . I’m not sure you were having a confusing dream, or weather it was a nightmare. I suppose that doesn’t matter. Dreams are often filled with false images but contain flashes of reality. Perhaps someone **jokingly** said one of your cooked dishes tasted like burnt tires . . . with that comment later manifesting into your dream . . . just a thought. Don’t go postal on us!

Stevie-did you eat a late dinner? If I eat a late dinner, I have strange dreams.

Mike, I should be so lucky! No new car coming my way in the near future... but if I get a "smoking hot" anything, I'll let you know! Be well!

Lela... we ate around 7pm, but I was up till about 2am... seems lateness of the meal wouldn't have any influence... Never know about dreams, tho! lol

I got a good laugh out of your dream. I seldom remember mine other than the feeling I've had one. I have, though, preheated the oven forgetting I had stashed something in there (which I no longer do) but it was never a car.

BigShotsMom, Seems I must have been fretting about preheating while "something" was still in the oven, tho when kitchen was remodelled, I swore I'd never stash in there again! Be well, friend!

My friend belonged to a dream group for years. I;ve had her review my dreams. Bsed on that, I'd venture the following. One is that family is very important to you. Then fear that you have gone too far come into your mind! Thing then seem to take on a life of their own and you can't control them. It seems that something of value is lost, ie the car. You ask the question, "How can I explain" I would say with love and the feeling that there is not judgement. This may be the challange. Dreams are symbolic.

BB, I'm so sorry that it took me so long to read your comment! Thanks so much for your input! family is important to me, tho we're miles apart, and thus, perhaps I have lost (family) AND then the dream went on it's way... I still think it funny tho, that I "parked a car in my oven!" Be well... and keep in touch!

About Me
Started cooking many years ago, and learned as I went. First meal may have been "steak & chips" at age 15, in Birmingham England, where I lived for several years. Mostly grew up in MI, transplanted to the desert 30yrs ago, or so. Favorite cookbook is "Better Homes", also enjoy "Great British Cooking, a well kept secret." Hesitate to call myself "expert," but friends do rave...
My favorite things to cook
Italian has been my "specialty" for some time, and my "signature" meal is Lasagne, salad, garlic bread, which I first made 20yrs ago... from SCRATCH, very first time I made it. (Never again, folks...) Now start with a big jar of sauce!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanks to my heritage, I have enjoyed trying foods from different cultures. We still have beer battered fish, and chips of course; ground meat dishes often, chicken occasionally, pork too. I would love to submit a bean dip recipe, however, my ex who gave me the original has passed, and I have no way to verify that it didn't come from another source! I also enjoy British cooking (with a few yankee twists) and once made Plum puddings, also known as Christmas puddings, as far as I know... what an ordeal that was, but well worth the effort. Today, there is mail order!
My cooking triumphs
Greatest triumph was not too long ago, when I held a sit down dinner for 12, Lasagne being the entree. It was a fund raiser I chose to sponsor, and am proud to say that "we" raised over $1000 from that meal alone, minimum donation being $25. All proceeds collected were donated; my partner and I provided the meal and beverages.
My cooking tragedies
MEATLOAF of all things! Went through a stage of "winging" it each time, and I pulled one after another out of the oven that were almost unedible. As yet, not too big on baking... no sweet tooth here! Have dabbled, but find doughs/pastries especially difficult, perhaps as it's 90 degrees in my kitchen much of the year.
