Hey all, sorry to be gone for so long, but have just been too worn out to even turn on the 'puter!  I have finally pulled the house back to it's normal state of "havoc,"   I believe the "grocery" type stuff in in check, after visiting Costco, unloading my cart, and turning around for the one item we were rather critical on.  Had the same cashire...

TOTALLY loved meeting Laurie and her husband, but did appreciate not having to schlepp around sight seeing, although J did take them a couple places I've never been.  I later explained to Laurie, that I am totally happy to hang at home, and make sure a decent meal is ready upon their return.  They totally understood, and went off and about as the whim grabbed.

Weds. night, after the guys had retired, Laurie and I made a BIIIIGGGG mistake, and got into the vodka.  After showing her some of my hand crafted items, that have been given to me during life's path...  She loved it, and gave me her opinion of each, and how well they had been crafted.  From there, (fix another tall cocktail,) we headed out to the side patio, to sit and chat more.  We talked about anything and everything, from food, to "troubles," and I got to see a side of Laurie, I might not have done otherwise.  I really wanted to start a fire, but made do with the water feature (such as it is!) as she kept saying that she needed to retire for the night, as they were getting an early start to Tucson, to visit another friend for a few.  I awoke a little "foggy" the next am, hearing the shower going, and dozed off again... they had gone before I "came to," and stumbled toward the coffee pot.  Laurie had left a lovely note...

Today, as I finally felt I had time to boot up the computer, I sent her an email with two of the recipes she had asked I send her.  On the 14th, I pulled out a plum pudding I had made, deviating from the original recipe some, only to rate it "passable, however it was saved by a healthy dose of custard sauce!

Having shown L my tree skirts, she asked if I would make her one...  "How big?"  "For my mantle tree"  She left with the dinner plate sized red/green one, saying that she loved it.  Yesterday I started the "next," but the machine is giving me grief, and I just don't know enough, or feel like, monkeying around with it, to attempt to correct the problem.  When it comes to tension issues, or more in depth adjustments, I proceed cautiously, for fear I mess the machine up so bad I need a new one!  Unfortunately, I don't have a friend here in town who has sewn for years, to call and ask...  In the long run, I guess I know enough to get me into trouble!!!  Getting back to quilting will have to wait until I have a full day of nothing to do...

I chuckled (to myself) that when I served "corned beef" on Monday ( I know, early, but..!)  Laurie insisted that I give her my rec.  MUST admit, I toss veggies in the crockpot, top with meat, seasoning pkg, and enough water to cover the veggies, and let it cook all day!  Sorry, but I don't exactly call that a "recipe!"  That is more a "throw and go!" in my book!

So, all, yes I am back, at least till the next "ordeal," glad to hear that at least two of you are still checking in from time to time...

Btw, today was a kitchen crazy day, as I had just shy of two bundles of the most gorgeous asparagus rotting in the frige... well, not, but it needed to be cooked!  The tip of the iceburg!!!!

I do believe that both of you gals joined me "early on," and do certainly love all responses. Seems gradually, I'm adding new "familiar" names to my "rememory" as I called it as a kid! These days, rather than a "steel trap," I seem to have a "steel seive" -- need I say more? Luv ya!

Nice to see you back! And glad you had a nice visit - I also found something in my fridge that I had forgotten about - some fresh green beans - and I keep forgetting to cook them! I should just blanche and freeze them at this point! :)

Stevie, glad you had a good visit. If you are having trouble with your machine, get out the owner's manual. Usually it is only a couple of regular problems: the thread gets knocked out of one of the loops it needs to be in, the bobbin isn't threaded right. The needle could be dull. After sewing for awhile, there is a wad of lint that could build up around the bobbin case. Blow it out with canned air, or use a little brush that might come with your machine. If the tension seems wrong, make sure the top thread and bobbin thread are the same, use a new needle, and a practice scrap. Set the tension someplace in the middle, and adjust up or down as you practice. Don't throw your machine out! It most likely just needs a little cleaning and oil.

Morning all!! Great to hear from you! Daisy, sounds like we are on the same page... If it ISN'T the bobbin mis-threaded, it might be a matter of upper/lower tensions being out of whack. Have had trouble with that before, a knob on back to adjust, I fear I will mess it up worse. Hadn't thought about the needle, or lint tho"! Start simple is my motto - oh, and the book is in my sewing box!! More later...

About Me
Started cooking many years ago, and learned as I went. First meal may have been "steak & chips" at age 15, in Birmingham England, where I lived for several years. Mostly grew up in MI, transplanted to the desert 30yrs ago, or so. Favorite cookbook is "Better Homes", also enjoy "Great British Cooking, a well kept secret." Hesitate to call myself "expert," but friends do rave...
My favorite things to cook
Italian has been my "specialty" for some time, and my "signature" meal is Lasagne, salad, garlic bread, which I first made 20yrs ago... from SCRATCH, very first time I made it. (Never again, folks...) Now start with a big jar of sauce!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanks to my heritage, I have enjoyed trying foods from different cultures. We still have beer battered fish, and chips of course; ground meat dishes often, chicken occasionally, pork too. I would love to submit a bean dip recipe, however, my ex who gave me the original has passed, and I have no way to verify that it didn't come from another source! I also enjoy British cooking (with a few yankee twists) and once made Plum puddings, also known as Christmas puddings, as far as I know... what an ordeal that was, but well worth the effort. Today, there is mail order!
My cooking triumphs
Greatest triumph was not too long ago, when I held a sit down dinner for 12, Lasagne being the entree. It was a fund raiser I chose to sponsor, and am proud to say that "we" raised over $1000 from that meal alone, minimum donation being $25. All proceeds collected were donated; my partner and I provided the meal and beverages.
My cooking tragedies
MEATLOAF of all things! Went through a stage of "winging" it each time, and I pulled one after another out of the oven that were almost unedible. As yet, not too big on baking... no sweet tooth here! Have dabbled, but find doughs/pastries especially difficult, perhaps as it's 90 degrees in my kitchen much of the year.
