Old-Fashioned Vanilla Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2010
Excellent! I didn't change a thing. I tripled the recipe, cooked it in the microwave (no scorched pudding for me), and stirred in about 1 1/2 cups cooked rice. Thanks forthe recipe

Hamburger Skillet Supper

Reviewed: May 10, 2010
I made this a year ago and I didn't write down why I made some changes. My notations say..... I added a finely minced potato, cooked the recipe longer than recommended, and added the extra seasoning packet and salt. I served it all with just bread. My comment was "Good , Easy".

Baked Beans II

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
I took it to a function and only a few beans were left in the pan. A very good recipe. I did add some cut up, sauteed onions and bell peppers and a lot more bacon.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
FIVE STARS! I have been making this Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball for 6 1/2 years and have taken it to guild several times and today I took it to our family reunion. As usual, someone had to ask for the recipe. It is uncommon and delicious and I am never disappointed.

Four Egg Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2008
Really, an excellent cake, tender, moist, great flavor. I used butter flavored shortening, self-rising flour, and a mixture of skim milk and whipping cream. I definitely will be making it often! Thanks a lot Carolyn!

Cream of Chicken with Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: May 3, 2007
I think that this soup is great! The changes I made are that I roasted my chicken, used a can of evaporated milk, and I used a box of wild rice mix because I could not find plain wild rice. I used everything in the box. I would like to try the recipe again with the wild rice. I would still cook my chicken the same way instead of boil it. Thanks so much for the recipe Thomas. I loved it!

Chocolate Cobbler

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2005
I, too, decreased the sugar and boiling water by about 1/2 cup. Next time I'll follow the recipe exactly (maybe) because it is really a great recipe. As written, it would just be much more pudding-like. I did not have ice cream and it is still great. Thanks KRice1123 for submitting this recipe.

Asian Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2005
This was an excellent salad (almost addictive) but I did make changes. I used the oriental flavor of ramen noodles, two packages of coleslaw mix instead of the napa cabbage, and some rice wine vinegar in addition to the distilled white vinegar. This recipe is a definite 'keeper'. Thanks Juanita!

This cake was very good, easy to make and moist. I will make it often because my husband loves lemon.

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2005
Ver good and forgiving recipe. I mixed it in my breadmachine and cooked the rolls in the oven. I will need to work a little more to shape the hotdog buns. Mine were too flat but that was my fault. Still, the buns were fine. I will definitely use this recipe often.

Homemade Cream Filled Individual Sponge Cakes

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2005
For a recipe that attempts to be like a well-known filled individual snack cake, this one succeeds. My husband says that it is even better than Twinkies. Next time I will try the recipe with a chocolate cake mix. A really nice (not fancy) dessert.

My Mom's Sausage and Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2003
I just finished making this recipe and it was very good. I did not have any celery and I used 4 cup-a-soup packets, (I did not have the regular size). I also was short on time so I just sauteed the sausage, bell pepper, onion, and almonds on top of the stove. I cooked them until they were good and done and the moisture had evaporated. I drained off the fat, added the rice, soup mix and the water, covered the pot and simmered about 40 minutes. I stirred it every now and then and near the end I just let it sit so the bottom got nice and brown (I used a teflon pot). I don't see why I can't just use chicken flavored Rice-a-Roni next time instead of the soup mix and rice. It was a very flavorful dish.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2002
This was a very good recipe. I used half ground beef and half ground turkey and I used condensed golden mushroom for the French onion soup. To compensate for the lack of onion flavor, I caramelized a large Texas sweet onion and added half of it to the meat mixture and half to the sauce mixture. I only made the changes because I did not have all the exact ingredients. The dish I ended up with may not have been Salisbury Steak but it was, nevertheless, very good.

Creamy Pesto Shrimp

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2002
This was my first time making an Alfredo sauce. It was wonderful. I didn't have pesto so I used about 15 large leaves off my basil plant. I used small shrimp that I cooked yesterday. I'm sure that chicken would also be a good choice. Thank you for the recipe.

Orange Marmalade Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2002
I need a recipe to get rid of an excess of marmalade. This was a very good choice. It is very quick to assemble, has common ingredients and cooks rapidly. I have made it twice. I eliminated the spices for the second batch because I couldn't taste the marmalade. Very good recipe. It would be good with any flavor preserves. Oh, and don't cut back on the marmalade; the moisture is needed. Thanks Allrecipes!

Spiced Yogurt Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2002
This cake is wonderful! I did cook it (1 hour) in a tube pan as someone suggested (1 hour) and dusted it with confectioner's sugar as someone else suggested. It is a pretty cake, nice flavor, nice crumb, and just spicy enough.

Quick and Easy Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2002
I gave it 5 stars all around. It is a good recipe for what it is, a quick bread. Next time I might double the recipe or use a smaller loaf pan. The bread was kind of short. Still, very good and very fast. Thanks Inari!

Dr. Bird Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2002
This cake is so good!!! I used self-rising flour and eliminated the soda and salt. And I only had chunk pineapple so I just cut it up some. This cake (bread) was so moist and had a perfect crumb. I didn't have any problems at all. I will be making it a lot because it seems that I always have bananas that are over-ripe. Oh, and I used a Bundt pan (very pretty). Thanks Carol!

Celebration Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2001
This is probably the simplest pie that I have ever made. It was very good and considering the amount of effort involved, it was excellent. Thanks Maggie. I will definitely make it again. Oh, I used kiwi-lime drink mix and my husband thought that I had made a key lime pie. I also made one using chocolate sweetened milk ( I don't think that it available any longer) and cherry powdered drink mix. It tasted so much like chocolate covered cherries. Such fun!
