To Raisin or Not To Raisin...that is the question

I am straying from my usual blog post where I tell a story about my mom and give you one of her recipes....There is a great debate at the office.
I am half Italian and half Russian - My mom's parents came from Italy and they always add some raisins to their meatball mixture. A good friend of mine at work is 100% Italian (her words) and told me I am crazy. Google search does show raisins in meatballs
originating in Southern Italy. I found this particularly funny because my 100% Italian friend is from Calabria, which is one of the specific regions mentioned in the use of raisins. She is still insisting this is crazy. I will say she has tasted my meatballs
and does think they are delicious, but still won't acknowledge this as being true Italian. She has taken it to the aisles of the office and stopping anyone with an Italian sounding last name if they use raisins - She's become possessed with this topic....
So....I am reaching out to my blog readers.....Raisins???
