i'm talking about the southern round-up! ok, if ya folks are new let me give you the rules. NO STINKING RULES! this a meeting of like-minded kindred spirts together to celebrate the company of folks you have seen here and would like to meet in person. this is a great group of folks.. many folks are in. folks coming from both coasts and north and even further south. why? just to meet you. a freak flag will be awarded. nope, NO STINKING RULES as to wins/recieves it. the southern round-up. it will be held at a  crummy looking resturant in panama city, fla. but the real action is gonna be at the celadon condos on panama city beach. many folks staying a week. alright let me do the disclamier now...you don't have to cook, ( who wants to? if so...cook away). you will not have to write a blog about butter,( unless you want to)., no one is going to pay your way, ( hit the lottery!) but i guarantee a great time. these are the best folks on the planet, believe me, you will meet sisters and brothers from another mother. we are meeting in one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. off-season rates and crowds are thinned out. snowbirds not in yet and kids back in school.cindy lepp is helping trying to get folks rooms with other folks that want to stay longer at the celadon. a very nice high-rise condo directly on the beach. google the area and decide what you would like to do. i know para-sailing, swimming with dolphins, crabbing, fishing and bar b queing  by the pool. but that is my game plan. oh, did i forgot to mention...this is a SOUTHERN round-up! there will be alcoholic beverages served. rednecks in redneck riviera. come see rednecks from all over these great states contributing to the demise of idiots everywhere in their natural habitat. questions answered at cderr@aol.com. gonna be a blast!
Aug. 13, 2012 5:08 am
Now that's an invitation! Crabbing and fishing, swimming with dolphins boy do I want to go! I'll just have to settle for the vicarious thrill from the blogs :)
Aug. 13, 2012 9:40 am
Sorry Gary no crab baskets or nets. Rope I could come up with. I will have to get with Cindy and Jan to see when the condo we are in time starts I will be in on that day... 14 or 15 witch ever it is.
Aug. 13, 2012 1:02 pm

Aug. 13, 2012 1:07 pm
hi robin! yes bring some rope. we can go crabbing and boil those critters up 1 night on the grill and grill some corn and foil-wrapped veggies. this is gonna be big-time grin your face off fun! oh, i'm picking up jan early the 14th. it's gonna be about 6 there by the 14th. more coming the next day. claire and i are sleeping with ya that night then sharing another room the next week with other folks. i get the balcony :)
Aug. 13, 2012 1:08 pm
oh...i'll grab some crab nets down there unless amanda has some...or someone else can bring some.
Aug. 13, 2012 1:11 pm
Oh gderr, I thought I was going to be able to swing it. I really did. Bottom lip is stuck way out!!!!! I'm sure any seafood you cook doesn't have sand in it :) Remember my complaints about my birthday dinner here? IN the middle of the US. LOLOL Deep sigh! We win the lottery, I'll bring some more along with me :)
Aug. 13, 2012 3:46 pm
you would never regret making a southern round-up. believe the folks that attended last year. pelicangal has to drive @ 3 hours to a regional airport to take another flight to san franisco ( i think) and then fly into atlanta or birmingham and then fly into panama city. think of lay-overs, waits for plaines, hoping the luggage is going where you are going. and then at the end of a journey that probably takes all day...hoping some idiot will be at the airport to pick her up. yep, i'm that idiot. we are leaving our home @ 4am. and picking her up and getting her a bloody mary before she can pass out. that's how much fun we have. many other folks spending an extreme amount of money on pure faith. all the 1st timers are coming back...folks moving other vacation plans around to be there. it's amazing. i love these people. i truly wish you could come. i could pick you up in atlanta. certainly plan on saving for next year. you may want to organize a round-up near you, you won't believe how much fun it is.
Aug. 13, 2012 5:08 pm
I don't think you have to tell Cat how much fun a round up is - she has done 2 Mid West round ups and this year Mike Harvey encouraged folks to participate in a Relay fo Life cancer event. I so wish I could come to yours or hers. Maybe next year if I can get my life rearranged. It sounds like sooo much fun!
Aug. 13, 2012 5:18 pm
hi bsm! i followed mike's journey. he has been thru hell and back again. a stronger person!! i want to surprise the cooking-challenged wife with a trip to maui next year for mauigirl's roundup. still waiting on details. now, if can keep a secert that long. i so wish you and cat could come. ya mid-westners would fit like a glove.
Aug. 14, 2012 5:49 am
That would be so fun! But it's so far away.:( Have fun!
Aug. 14, 2012 7:01 am
Hey Gary, yes I have access to crab nets (Tim's uncle) I'm glad you posted this blog... Not sure if you guys went to Salty Sue's when you were here last year, but we really like it and it's close to the condo. They serve bbq and seafood and it is a very nice ambiance. They have a room that we could reserve and would be perfect for our roundup. Let me know what ya think!
Aug. 14, 2012 7:46 am
You just never know with me..........

Aug. 14, 2012 5:40 pm

Aug. 15, 2012 10:32 am
hi sherri! the restaurant is being checked on by arich. i certainly want to go back to hunts. but it is small. but, you and your husband are certainly welcome there! you do not have to sneak into the condos, honey. this gang is wide-open, believe me. ya are gonna have a blast! you may consider staying longer after meeting all these other screwballs! but ya MUST come to condos!! this is not a i day affair. you will meet life-long friends here. make sure you sleep alot before arriving. no one can shut up! if i remember right, ya are coming out of s.c. we live columbus, ga. if ya interstate the whole way, ya will pass thru here. we have a spare bedroom ya can use. we are only 3 and a hours to p.c. i didn't recieve the emails yesterday. but i'll check again this evening. nothing formal down there. flip flops and swimsiuts!
Aug. 16, 2012 6:19 am
Hey Gary, I live in Florida, and we head north to the panhandle, so no can stop by there, way out of the way. We will be in the area for the whole week, so we will be able to visit more than just the dinner. By the way I live in flip flops, I have a pair in every single color there is, and two drawers of swim suits...lol.
Aug. 16, 2012 7:06 am
have crab pots (purchased them for our northern ocean fishing adventure this past summer)....wish I had time and energy to travel. The crabs we pulled were sooo freakin delicious, we are planning another trip for next year. Salmon, halibut, snapper, crab all came home with us. Next year we are taking a shrimp net as well. Have a great gathering.
Aug. 16, 2012 10:45 am
Gary- We buy fresh seafood from the markets, they come fresh off the boat. Gandy's on hwy 79 is my fave and it is pretty close to the condo too! Not sure on how many nets, but I'll get back to you on that. The pier off of pier park would be good, Tim say he went to the bay with his uncle growing up- he prefers the blue crab. He has certain method of frying them and if we can get enough crab in time we would love to do that! Also, if anyone's interested, my mom will be coming from NOLA and could bring crawfish... I'll need to check on a breakfast location, we usually just go to the diner here when we go out for breakfast :)
Aug. 16, 2012 1:05 pm
DANG SHERRI I CONFUSED YOU WITH SOMEONE ELSE. SORRY! YEP, OUT OF YA'S WAY. IT MUST BE LOVES2COOK2. oops, sorry about the caps. lazy here and ... invation open if you ever need to visit this area!

Aug. 16, 2012 3:58 pm

Aug. 17, 2012 5:05 pm
Sherri~ this is the right place for seafood and beer :) Hey Gary, do you have an idea on head count? Also, there is another place that has good cheap oysters and some awesome chicken wings! What they have in common, I don't know, but it works!
Aug. 17, 2012 5:08 pm
Ooh, just a thought... If anyone was interested in some deep sea fishing Capt. Anderson's Marina has many different charters. They also have a few boats where you just pay like $50 and you go out for a few hours and the deck hand provides all the gear and will bait your hook. Just another activity to ponder :)
Aug. 17, 2012 6:06 pm

About Me
i enjoy cooking. the wife considers it a chore. i hate yard work. she loves it. we mesh. i love bass fishing, reading, music, baseball, college football and my family.
My favorite things to cook
i love vegetables, soups, and italian cusine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
holidays are a big deal! christmas is my time to shine. i try to add a new recipe each year, but the family demands pretty much the same menu. kinda frustrating!
My cooking triumphs
i cared for my mother in law about 3 months when she had shattered her shoulder. i didn't work, so money was tight. we survived on only wife's paycheck during that time. ma-n-law had diet restrictions. it was difficult to make cheap, nutritious meals everyone would eat. we prospered as a family and learned alot about each other's strenghths and weaknesses.
My cooking tragedies
a stove top fire. i explained that one already. the grill falling over was another one...oops grill season is here! i love the tragedies...those are the ones that i'll always remember!
