i'm stuck in hell!

yep, i'm still stuck in a glorified hotel room now, going on 3 weeks. i absolutely HATE it! i'm sitting here watching rachel ray make italian chow...i hate rachel ray, i love italian chow. i'm checking allrecipes on-line. folks are COOKING! not me...and i am starving. torture. i have been placed into a type of pugatory.. i went by the house today to check on the progress of the kitchen, i go by every day. they are slower then a turd of hurtles. getting the new cabinets installed today, BUT the counter-tops did not arrive...so, because tomorrow is a holiday...they won't be in until monday. GREAT! even better, claire has to stay with her mom, who had foot surgery yesterday. so no wife, no kitchen...and i'm still hungry. i really need some great cheese with this whine...sorry. no one else here to complain to.
Nov. 10, 2011 1:31 pm
I so sympathize, I once moved out of my condo and bought a new one just because I needed new flooring throughout and I could not contemplate living in the mess. I would rather move and I did. Still in the place I moved into 8 years ago but the bedroom carpets looking kinda shabby, uh oh !
Nov. 10, 2011 1:33 pm
If I told you that I was without a kitchen for FOUR YEARS would that make you feel any better? Yes, no lie....4 years!
Nov. 10, 2011 1:55 pm
Gary - - come on down to Florida. You and Claire can have the spare bedroom and you can have free reign with my kitchen. But be forwarned - - I'm a caterer - - so moving in means you will be cooking - and perhaps non-stop. But the good news is - whatever is being cooked for the client is also shared with the crew. So come on down - you won't have time to watch Rachael Ray!
Nov. 10, 2011 2:09 pm
LOLOLOLOL! I really am sorry but yes, I'm laughing out loud. Why? Because my husband is laid off yet again and he watches Rachael every morning. To prove he is actually listening to the recipes he prints off one every so often, like this morning-a spaghetti filled hamburger. Seriously? Blech, right up there with cilantro & beets, I'm thinking. Truly, I am sorry you are miserable, though, because I HATE remodeling. This too shall pass! Maybe like a kidney stone but it will :)
Nov. 10, 2011 2:13 pm
I do like Rachel ray, but I am not a fan of her show, I would prefer to watch her cook, not talk to other people. so I fast forward to the cooking parts of her show.
Nov. 10, 2011 2:28 pm
HI COVERGIRL! yep, if i was you, i would be looking for moving boxes and a place to live...this is AGONY!
Nov. 10, 2011 2:34 pm
hi luv2cook! love ya gal, the light at the end of the tunnel got a little brighter today...yeah...cabinets! i know i need to be patient, but heck bird day will be here before you know and everybody wants to come by and bring their familiea/friends...most of my kitchen stuff is boxed...whoops make that ALL of my kitchen stuff is in jail right now...we gotta re-organize everything, then again in january once the re-model is completed.
Nov. 10, 2011 2:36 pm
hi cat! lmao...a sketti burger, yep she has the taste of a toad. i'll never do this again!
Nov. 10, 2011 2:37 pm
hi king! well if the sound is turned off...sandra lee, giada, and ina are ez on the eyes..lol.
Nov. 10, 2011 2:39 pm
Well, I really am sorry for you but you did make me laugh. Did you see Magnolia Blossom's blog about her dad and his sayings? If not go read and have a nice laugh :)(:
Nov. 10, 2011 2:41 pm
hi gebah! you must be joking! I WOULD BE A BALD-HEADED CRAZY MAN THAT LIVES UNDER A BRIDGE SCREAMING FOR CHANGE SO I COULD BUY SOME CLOWN SHOES. oops sry about the caps...but yes, i bought my wife some real clown shoes for christmas gift today. kinda sexy...she hates clowns btw.
Nov. 10, 2011 2:43 pm
page #2 You will have a nice laugh and it does rather sound like you need one. I may need to re read it since the DH is now watching Paula Deen. Deep sigh, we are trying to lose weight not pack er on.
Nov. 10, 2011 2:51 pm
yep, i'm watching that fat lady too...i'm starving i'd a cat's tail right now...raw. claire is supposed to be on her way up here so can get some fajitas. she is probably lost...she is always "fashionably" late. when you are invited to eat at our home...arrive a hour LATE, you're on time, lol!
Nov. 10, 2011 2:55 pm
i did see cat's blog...we got some good uns in the deep south too...i swear these really old guys after us asking them for directions, they said we couldn't get there from here. i SWEAR! i lmao!!
Nov. 10, 2011 3:04 pm
Wow, you are in a bad way! Hope the kitchen is done soon and your girl is back at your side. May I suggest Brie with your whine. ;)
Nov. 10, 2011 3:07 pm
LOLOLOL Patience is a virtue :)
Nov. 10, 2011 3:08 pm
WWWWWAAAAAWWWAAAAA Sing us a Sadder song Dear Gary BOY!! You getting a new Fricken kitchen! How great is that?? Put some pants on, go get your Wife and take her to a nice resturant! You will be cooking again in no time:) Say Hi to Claire of us while you are eating!
Nov. 10, 2011 3:10 pm
hi cooking! i admire what you do gal! yep, once we get the kitchen back together, which should be before mylepp shows up next friday we will be back in the cozy confines. my moose is gonna move in until her wedding as well. i may need to take care of ma n law as well...i truly do love it! cooking for 3-5 is so much more fun then trying to cook for a couple. i always make to much anyways! i'm raring to crank it up!
Nov. 10, 2011 3:35 pm
cruel shoes patty cakes! lol. yep, i know MAN-UP! i'm just sick of the situation...i know, i know it's gonna get done...but heck where is my black pepper for example...in jail.
Nov. 10, 2011 3:41 pm
You must be watching food network. I canceled my DirecTV and bought an antenna. I think they charge too much, along with cable. I am sort of rebelling.
Nov. 10, 2011 4:19 pm
Tons o' whine over here... no cheese to speak of...This too shall pass.
Nov. 10, 2011 4:37 pm
Poor dear! This too shall pass. If I ever redo another kitchen I will have a completion clause in the contract - done by such a date or they pay ME! But you'll have a wonderful place to cook for turkey day.
Nov. 10, 2011 5:13 pm
Are you sure Claire's Mama NEEDED her? Or did Claire need a break? (just kidding buddy) I know it's hard living in a hotel in the same town as your house. Been there, done that. It'll be over soon..... or not!!! LOL, hehehehe, sorry, I can't help myself.
Nov. 10, 2011 5:13 pm
hi cooking...i do love brie...but to me it' something that needs to be shared by candle-light, a roaring fireplace and raw fruits...with my whine between two loved ones. if time is of the essence...i stink.
Nov. 10, 2011 5:15 pm
hey king if i knew i would be divorced from the house this long i woulda cancelled EVERYTHING!
Nov. 10, 2011 5:16 pm
Nov. 10, 2011 5:18 pm
hi bsm! this to shall pass will be inscribed on my bathroom door if i EVER get bach home!
Nov. 10, 2011 5:21 pm
hi candice! cruel clown shoes that have stepped in poop. no cheese? ya are plain mean...but seriously, if ya are considering re-modeling your kitchens...see a shrink!
Nov. 10, 2011 5:34 pm
gderr, I can give sympathy with your re-do. I live in a house the size of a nit's sneaker and had our kitchen remodeled. We lived with our stove, fridge, washer and dryer plus boxes of kitchen equipment in our living room for 4--count 'em--4 months! Cooked in a microwave and a crockpot. Did dishes in the bathroom. I was so excited when our cabinets finally arrived, only to be told they were damaged and had to be re-ordered. We got the same cabinet re delivered 3 times before we could complete the kitchen. Never again!
Nov. 10, 2011 5:37 pm
The only reason I don't feel (too) bad teasing you is that we DID a kitchen remodel. I thought someone in this household would die. And, not from natural causes, if you get my drift.
Nov. 10, 2011 5:44 pm
linnie i don't own a gun, but in your situation i would take a fishing rod to somebodies tail and kick butt. i agree, i'll never do this again. i WILL move, sale, bail...anything but go thru this again!
Nov. 10, 2011 5:47 pm
yep, i know what you mean candice...so many different sub-contractors fiddling around and then their own emergencies, shortages, delays...good grief the excuses., and i'm very impatient to begin with. i'm going nuts!
Nov. 10, 2011 5:49 pm
G, just havin' a little bad day myself... had more Whine than cheese to go around... Ok.. just call me sorry! I do feel your pain... Thanks for the Friend check... Cheese is here for my friends!
Nov. 10, 2011 6:01 pm
kidding terry!! i just sound like a wimp to myself...i'm just sick of this process! heck i'm/ we ( when,if ever she returns) are extremely lucky to live where we do and how do. we worked hard all our lives to achieve something we wanted our daughters to be proud to call home. i love the kidding! you better bring it cause i am a southerner...we think quick, but talk slow...if you get my drift, lol!
Nov. 10, 2011 6:38 pm
Some people can't see the forest for (complaining about) the trees. Would that be you right now? Me thinks thou art a whiner! Wishing I was had the problem of a deluxe new kitchen in the works, smack-dab in the middle of a gorgeous vintage mansion with amazing character, in a city of absolutely stunning heritage,......Patience is not your virtue, is it! Anyhoo, glad you have a (twisted) sense of humor!
Nov. 10, 2011 7:02 pm
hi maw! no patience is not a virture i have! claire threatens me all the time. i'm one of those types that if you are 5 minutes early, you're 10 minutes late. i know, i'm a screwball. i plan EVERYTHING early...an efficiency expert type nerd i guess. i walk to the kitchen ans see what i need to take that way...what do do while there or in that area, and what needs to brought back when i return to my man-hole. yeah, no patience at all! i'll bite anyone's tail. superman's cape...yep i'll tug it.
Nov. 10, 2011 7:26 pm
Oh my gawd. That's all I can say.
Nov. 10, 2011 7:57 pm
hi marianne! i know, my feelings excatly..omg! let's get with the program...i'm stuck in a gloried condo w/o no larger then my den at home without a wife right now. entertainment is here on line or picking up pecans. she has over 30 lbs now...she needs more. ok, my life is complete...said with serious sarcasm!
Nov. 10, 2011 8:21 pm
Love sent Southern style! Hang in there my friend... and I want some of those pecans... shelled of course!
Nov. 10, 2011 9:46 pm
gderr, I'd send you some food your way. I know it sucks being in the hotel...but hang in there. And I hope Claire is doing well. Soon enough that kitchen is going to be dirty from cooking and not from construction...any idea what your going to cook 1st?
Nov. 10, 2011 10:52 pm
I just said to my guy.."I think we found a new wine.. It's called, B@tch, Moan, Complain"..He kinda laughed. Hang in there Gary..In good time you will have the kitchen of your dreams. For now, just try to relax and listen to some Lady Antebellum songs..LOL!
Nov. 11, 2011 4:16 am
You are getting a kitchen. Somebody else is doing the work. You are whining. Hmmmm. Are you sure you put your jock strap on the right side?
Nov. 11, 2011 9:29 am
Well, maybe your "nerdy" efficiency trait, which is a long-term one, could overshadow your impatience, even during the kitchen mess. (I like to make trips through the house count for double-duty, myself.) Maybe you could look at it this way: having someone else do the kitchen is far more efficient than doing it yourself!! (been there, done that) So, as an exercise inefficiency, this is the way to go. Or, would Claire put up with you guys DIY? Probably not.
Nov. 11, 2011 7:47 pm
Sorry I missed you. Sorry your having so much trouble. Now how about an E-mail about that wonderfull pie crust you make. Hummm. I tried one today for He who never gets his way. He wanted pie for veterans day. So I made him one, even if you would not share your crust recipe and tips with us at the round up.
Nov. 12, 2011 1:30 pm
Aha! So I am not the only one who would rather move than remodel, you are coming over to the dark irrational side with me now. It's organized and clean here, come now.!!
Nov. 13, 2011 1:22 pm
hi terry...we are still picking up pecans...good grief we have close to 37 lbs. i think...pecan pies for everyone!
Nov. 13, 2011 1:24 pm
HI MIS...not sure when we are getting back in, but maybe a chilen breast type baked with italian/ panko and chopped pecans, rice and asparagus. something seasonal!
Nov. 13, 2011 1:27 pm
hi anissa! she snapped at me today, it really is getting to us. to make matters worse, i have a good friend that had a major argument with his girlfriend so he's sleeping on the couch in our suite.
Nov. 13, 2011 1:28 pm
lol mike! i know i should be grateful, but i'm ready to go HOME!
Nov. 13, 2011 1:30 pm
hi maw...no she and i would drive each other crazy trying to decide all the different options....i'm so disgusted with this...i will NEVER do this again!
Nov. 13, 2011 1:33 pm
hi robin! love ya sweetie! my fearless daredevil! love it!! i didn't make the crust...store bought, but i did dust it up with pecans and more stuff.
Nov. 13, 2011 1:37 pm
hi cover! i think the light at the end of the tunnel is a hair larger...heck we got the refrigerator back in it's place, the bottom cabinets are set...no counter-tops, back-splash, or stove in kitcen...but HOPEFULLY by thursday i will have my man-hole back. if not mylepp gets the other bed in our suite, i get the couch and my buddy gets the floor.
Nov. 13, 2011 4:56 pm
Sounds like your "second" home is getting crowded - - you and Claire can come to Florida and leave them your suite - lol! I know - I know - - you just want YOUR HOME back and everybody else can have the Hilton!!
Nov. 13, 2011 8:13 pm
love you luv2cook! he is now drinking my LAST beer. he's a buddy, so i gotte deal with it...but my last beer, dang! he promised to go buy more at 12...this county is dry until monday...heck nobody will be open, but the thought is there, i guess.
Nov. 13, 2011 9:23 pm
Your kitchen is torn up - you're out of your house - your matchbox house is getting crowded with visitors - your "buddy" has drank all your libations - and you live in a dry county . . . . . . . who did you make mad??????????? lol OH - OH - AND Thanksgiving is in 10 days - - I know "cruel shoes" - lol!
Nov. 14, 2011 8:26 am
Ooo - I've been through one of those. In my last house. Then get this - I upped and move within 3 months of the completion and now have the worst kitchen I have ever had. HAHA I'm thinking remodel time - shudders....Good luck with yours! Stay sane!oh and lol @luv2cook ;)
Nov. 14, 2011 9:04 am
Why didn't you get a room with a kitchen if you knew it was going to take this long, if not longer? Some people call themselves cooks but only if they have all their nice things around them. We are going camping for turkey day this year and of course I will BBQ my bird, we have already had a bunch of friends who said they will be there. I have never let my surroundings stop me from cooking.
Nov. 14, 2011 10:43 am
Count your blessings, Gary; I wish I had a house to remodel, sigh... LOL! Really though, I hope it's done soon and is exactly the way you want it. :)
Nov. 14, 2011 12:21 pm
hi luv! we went by this morning, they have counter-tops on, sink placed, plumber coming tomorrow ( hopefully.) then the painting ensues...but the train coming up the track is getting closer!
Nov. 14, 2011 12:24 pm
hi karisma! my best i really mean my best advice is to just jump ship and sale. my plate is so full with what's going on and i am going nuts!
Nov. 14, 2011 12:27 pm
hi topfuel! nope, we had no idea it would take this long...i wish i had known! oh, yes i use my nice things...they are my stuff, and i USE 'em. try frying your bird, it's excellent.
Nov. 14, 2011 12:29 pm
hi el! agree i hope it's done very soon...this suite is gonna get crowded!
Nov. 14, 2011 7:55 pm
What is wrong with you!!!!! I told you that you have a permanent place at our house. You should have just grabbed a plane and come on over. It's not so far I promise my friend. Sorry I haven't been around but have been very busy volunteering at the Lodge so you could have been a great help and COOKED for us all, while I was busy. Love you and Claire and if it goes on for much longer feel free to come on over to the left coast. Bring Cindy with you.
Nov. 15, 2011 5:41 pm
hiu jan! we love ya gal! you need pecans? i rasied hell today to get this finished. ourlepp will probably have to stay in the hotel when she drives in friday...but i did light in into the folks folks pretty good, plenty of folks on task today, but claire changed her mind about paint color choices, so another day goes by. i bit$hed and moaned enough that additional stuff was thrown in. i THINK we will be out of this place by monday...i certainly hope so, i thought we would be home tomorrow...another set-back, but a great day in another way!
Nov. 16, 2011 10:19 am
So what's the latest Gary? Will you be home in time to thaw out a turkey and cook it in YOUR kitchen? Or will it be a cheeseburger at Mickey D's - - - would you like some fries with that? LOL
Nov. 17, 2011 3:53 am
floor til is in. dishwasher.sink, refrigerator , cabinets are in kiltzing has started (priming the walls and ceiling) is now in process. claire picked the colors for the walls and cabinets...i thought she had done that already...lmao! the tile back-splash is going in today. we have to be there early today to make sure of the back-splash. bird-day will probably catered and served at my ma n law's home, she lives here. i SWEAR i'll never go thru this again!
Nov. 17, 2011 3:56 am
oh, it will take probably 2 days to place all the furniture back in place, the knick-knacks and deciding what to put where. and we still have to get the kitchen/ island and ovens in january. but, we are not moving out for that.
Nov. 17, 2011 2:02 pm
well . . .at least things seem to be moving in the right direction. Having your bird day catered???? . . hmmmmm. . . I'm a chef/caterer . .need a hand? Just look at it this way . . things could be worse -- you could be having turkey day at your MIL - AND - living there. Or would that be a better idea than where you are now? Anyway - - - I'm glad you're seeing some light at the end of the tunnel - - and hopefully it's not an on-coming train (lol) - - hang in there Gary!!
Nov. 18, 2011 1:32 pm
Are you out of hell yet? Haven't seen a post lately so I'm thinkin' you are busy getting the new kitchen restocked and organized and preparing to cook a big TDay meal? Hope so.
Nov. 21, 2011 4:34 am
nope we are still in hell. BUT today, we are hauling our butts and gear back to our HOME! claire has to supervise where everthing goes. and talk about dirty laundry and dishes at our home...good grief! no on the turkey day question, we had to order it. but, come xmas...it's on like neck bone!
Nov. 24, 2011 7:16 am

About Me
i enjoy cooking. the wife considers it a chore. i hate yard work. she loves it. we mesh. i love bass fishing, reading, music, baseball, college football and my family.
My favorite things to cook
i love vegetables, soups, and italian cusine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
holidays are a big deal! christmas is my time to shine. i try to add a new recipe each year, but the family demands pretty much the same menu. kinda frustrating!
My cooking triumphs
i cared for my mother in law about 3 months when she had shattered her shoulder. i didn't work, so money was tight. we survived on only wife's paycheck during that time. ma-n-law had diet restrictions. it was difficult to make cheap, nutritious meals everyone would eat. we prospered as a family and learned alot about each other's strenghths and weaknesses.
My cooking tragedies
a stove top fire. i explained that one already. the grill falling over was another one...oops grill season is here! i love the tragedies...those are the ones that i'll always remember!
