All my blogs concern my wife, 33 blogs the counter says, i believe. such a long journey through the many steps to recovery. it has been enlightening to me at least. so many terrific medical professionals! what a job you have! i envy your courage and dilligence. such a thankless job it many "life or death " many family trials to deal with. i truly envy you and appreciate you! i wish i could do your job...i could not. i know that.  may god bless you! and please hit the lottery! tater and i went to see the doctor that had the doppler , ct scan, and mri ...i think that was all of the tests. they of couse took blood as well. we got the results this morning. all her blood clots had disolved, her cumdien level was excellent. she has now been released from taking cumiden. such a big worry for me! she loves her mangy flea-bag siamese cats and feeds them can cat food. the type you pull the lid, sharp edges and all. i know she will wait  not for me to come home from work to let me do it...i worry costantly about it. cumiden is a blood thinner..if she cut herself would she be able to stop bleeding? this has been a tough year. we are still waiting on the shepherd center to mail her enormous progress and recomendations to our school district so that she may teach again in august. another hoop that we must jump thru. seems like the last...i think. this is the first day of summer, she is off the rat poison and life is grand.  we have weathered so many trials...she is such a amazing woman! i'm graced with her prescence. may you find such love.

So wonderful to hear Gary about Claire and her continued success!! That is soo GREAT!! Of course you and her have gone over what to do if she should cut herself, You just have to have a little faith in her to do the right thing. It could happen anytime or never, making dinner or feeding her beloved cats. Trust her and she will show you she is coming back to you as best she can:) God Bless and continued Triumphs. I have a case of insomnia, hubby is a truck driver at night now, local here in town and I seem to not be able to sleep tonight. Hugs and kisses to you and Claire!!

Looks like things are coming your way! You have done well together and kept your heads high through medical, employment and personal issues. I hope that some young couples have been following your story and can see that they don't need to separate just because they discovered some bumps in life's roadways. It's overcoming obstacles together that makes marriage so wonderful!

then take some time and enjoy the sunsets, roses and sit on the swing. Great to here Gderr, I wish you and Claire all the best the life has to bring. Routine will be a welcome part of your day soon:)

How wonderful that you are able to count your blessings. You and Claire are an inspiration to so many. You'll get over this hurdle too.

What a journey your family has been on! I hope & pray that the school system gets Claire back where she needs to be-in front of a classroom. so wonderful to hear of a couple that pulls together & faces their problems w/a united front. You are very fortunate to have found wonderful doctors. Wishing your family all the best & hope you have many wonderful years ahead of you.

Awesome news about the Coumadin! I know how frightening that was for you, even though you knew it was necessary to protect Claire from issues with blood clots. Please don't feel as if you couldn't do the job that medical professionals do. You have truly demonstrated the patience and compassion necessary to be successful in the medical field just by standing up for your tater when necessary and by being there to support her whenever and wherever she needed you! Many hugs and wonderful thoughts are coming your way. Please give yourselves a BIG hug from me! And have Claire kiss those kitties between the eyes from me (I love cats, too!).
Jun. 22, 2010 1:52 pm
Wonderful news, Gary! You both have come such a long way and you both deserve the best life has to offer. I do hope I find true love someday, the way you and Claire have.
Jun. 22, 2010 5:57 pm
That is wonderful I really pray that God leads her to full recovery and gives her all of the knowledge she will need to live many more happy years by your side enjoying every sunset and laughing in the afternoon breeze.
Jun. 22, 2010 6:40 pm
Great news, Gary! So happy for you and Claire. Don't think I'm nuts but could you put a can of cat food in a plastic storage tub so when Claire needs to feed the kitty she can just take it out of the fridge? This may ease your worries a little bit. Just an idea. ; )
Jun. 22, 2010 7:02 pm
so many great folks here! all of you always has kind and helpful thoughts. i'm back to working full-time now. claire has to "cook" maybe 3 nights a week. i've told her to get on this site and ask for help. i hope someday she finds the interest. i'm off tomorrow and i cook then. she gets her choice of anything ( she always does lol.) she either requests italian sausage soup or my own salmon prdictable. i can make em in my sleep. but that's cool! life is getting more normal! again, folks thank you for your nice words. nurse ellen, you have found love here!
Jun. 22, 2010 8:26 pm
Oh, Gary, isn't it wonderful when you think you've lost someone and you get them back? My husband had a stroke about 16 years ago that left him unable to talk, walk or take care of himself in any way. I married him about 6 years afterward and had to be reminded that he'd had a stroke. This is a giant step on the road back, and one more thing on the list that you don't have to worry about anymore. Claire will be teaching in the fall. Just keep on keeping faith. Love to you both.
Jun. 22, 2010 9:10 pm
All I can say to you and Claire is that you are both amazing people. Love you both. Isn't that amazing when you don't even "know" someone but you really do?
Jun. 22, 2010 9:54 pm
hi jbott! sorry about your husband's stroke! she has made an amazing recovery! i believe only her closet friends would see any after-effects. i still cry when i see something a "little off." for instance, i noticed she was reading with the help of an index card...she said her eyes jump around and the cards help her focus. she will need more speech therapy. her math skills are still weak. but my goodness, has she came a long way back! hi marianne! yes it's possible! we share so much here. it's very easy to become intertwinned in the trials and triumps of people that if we crossed paths would probably not know their ar peep just walked by. but this place is full of hope, understanding, and yes love!
Jun. 22, 2010 11:12 pm
Gary, I just re-read my post and I'm afraid I wasn't very clear. My husband has fully recovered all of his faculties, but he still can't dance. Never could. He is an instrumentation technician in a supervisory capacity and is responsible for refitting the process controls in a gold mine that was closed down about 25 years ago. He speaks 10 computer languages and is fluent in 4. He still has a wonderful sense of humor and a stubbon streak that would rival a Missouri mule. If he can make it all the way back, so will Claire. :)
Jun. 23, 2010 6:55 am
hi jbott! no racial prejudice is here, but my wife is the "whitest" gal you have ever seen on a dance floor. i love music, she does too. i always have some great stuff playing while i cook. i'll glance over and check on her, she may be standing and trying to dance. i try to get her not to step on a cat. this was pre-stroke. i love messing with her. jbott, you're husband is a genius, my wife is too. aren't they amazing folks? i just stand back and out of her way and ask honey what do you want for dinner? claire was teaching herself latin prior to her stroke for fun. silly smart. we are both very lucky jbott! may god bless you for not judging him by what little impairments he may have had when you met him.
Jun. 23, 2010 7:11 am

Happy, happy, happy for you both! I think I speak for all when I say that Claire would be so welcomed here. Gary, as I said elsewhare, YOU are the ROCK STAR! I have SO enjoyed 'knowing' you for the last year... Now, about that freak flag?!

Jun. 28, 2010 4:59 am
I have read many of your blogs and glad to hear Claire is recovering so well! You two share a bond that only true love can share; you are definitely soulmates! Like Mike said above - I hope some young people have read your story and learn that a small "bump" in the road is not reason to separate, sticking together thru thick and thin is what true love is all about!
Jun. 28, 2010 7:16 am
I'm sorry I missed this when you posted it...your love for your wife comes through in every word you write. All the best for her continued recovery and I hope she's back at her school in August!!

Sorry I came late. I read through your blogs a few months ago and then finished them all tonight. I was a teacher to and for a "union" I think the Teacher's union sucks!! Ithink it is terrible that other teachers are lining up for her job plus the sub getting 'her' pay stinks! I wish you luck and commiserate with you! Praying they will let her back but I would have my ducks in a row to call out the media if they somehow try ad pull a fast one! Don't mean to be doomsayer just watch her back like I know you will! Again good luck!

isn't life interesting, you meet someone. you date, you marry, you are thinking to yourself something better may come along. divorce is so common. we have been together 35 years now. 28 married. that sounds so long. i never thought i would be with the same woman 2 years. seriously. my favorite memories ( and dreams) are about something we have done or will do. our task now is to jump thru 1 more hoop. she will. such an amazing recovery...truly an inspiration. i remember going to the hospital's chapel and praying for her before taking the elevator to the 8th floor. i haven't done that in a while. i need to again. i'm not religious, but the prayers, good thoughts and karma from here and elsewhere helped her. i truly appreciate your comments, many great thoughts and suggestions! i wish this was the last blog concerning claire, but at least 1 more coming...hopefully the last one.

About Me
i enjoy cooking. the wife considers it a chore. i hate yard work. she loves it. we mesh. i love bass fishing, reading, music, baseball, college football and my family.
My favorite things to cook
i love vegetables, soups, and italian cusine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
holidays are a big deal! christmas is my time to shine. i try to add a new recipe each year, but the family demands pretty much the same menu. kinda frustrating!
My cooking triumphs
i cared for my mother in law about 3 months when she had shattered her shoulder. i didn't work, so money was tight. we survived on only wife's paycheck during that time. ma-n-law had diet restrictions. it was difficult to make cheap, nutritious meals everyone would eat. we prospered as a family and learned alot about each other's strenghths and weaknesses.
My cooking tragedies
a stove top fire. i explained that one already. the grill falling over was another one...oops grill season is here! i love the tragedies...those are the ones that i'll always remember!
