this blog has been about my wife of 27 years. 34 together. we love each other. her doctor has suggested that she resumes teaching next fall. a  two day driving test needs to be administered as well as a iq test for her teaching creditionals to be applied again. i'm very aggravted. she has been driving...not at night in the rain, but regular traffic conditions. atlanta is a different drving attmosphere...that's where her test will take place. two days . i'm listening to brian eno. stephen king's short storys await upstairs. i'm listened to red red wine by ub40 and followed suit. i told my tater that her doctors mentioned they were not quite sure how much she would retain in terms of memory prior to her stroke. i told her she was a fantastic cook, loved to rub my feet, take out the garbage, thought that me playing poker with my friends was a fantastic idea, clean fish and hunt for bait was a great exercise, wash my truck and boat as well as wax it was just yummy stuff.. it seems she does not remember these prior passions....i maybe wrong but i think she is waking up....dang! merry christmas and happy new years! she is still too much trouble, but yep she's worth it!

Oh you're so bad! Claire, you're a real life Wonder Woman! Don't listen to that stuff he says!
Dec. 26, 2009 5:11 pm
lol Gderr, Good luck getting Claire to do that stuff for you. I am so glad things are getting back to "normal" for you. I hope that your whole family has a wonderful new year. You sure are due for it. Big (((hugs))) from Oregon.

I don't think I'd be driving if I had to pass my driving test in Atlanta! Of course there are things that Claire would rather do and rather not do, too! Even if she wants to go back to teaching, let her be the judge of when she needs to go through all the required hoopla. I'm glad you are still love her, and I'm glad she knows you care!

Thanks for the laughs! I'm glad Claire has made such a wonderful recovery. Best of luck to the two of you!

You guys have been through a lot this year -- I go a little crazy when my Beloved Hubby (who has Lupus, COPD, and a couple of other things that thankfully are not HIV or cancer-related) ends up in hospital, so I can sort of relate to the uncertainty you have been living with, and the roller-coaster ride of recovery. Nice try with the brainwashing, by the way. I hate to break it to you, but I think deep down you would probably have at least a panic attack if Tater decided she was going to cook up a storm, rub your feet, join you and the boys on poker night, and accompany you fishing and hunting. *lol* *Big Cyber Hugs* and best wishes to you both and to your family for a speedy recovery and "normalcy", and a much better 2010.

Hey Gary & Claire; and Happy Holidays! I think it's so wonderful that you both have come such a long way by the grace of God. I gotta admit too fella - huntin' fishin' and the garbage?? AND a foot rub??? You're BRAVE, VERY BRAVE! (lol) kdstreet

What the hey?? Don't these people who insist on making Claire take a two day driving test and i.q. test for re-credentialing know who she is??? Wonder Woman if I remember correctly. Obviously they need some reminding about what a superb person she is. I'd be aggravated about those test requirements too. Nice try regarding those other things that Claire loves, washing the boat, truck, etc!! It's in writing that you use to refer to her as your "cooking challenged wife." So that one's not gonna fly! It's so nice to hear the laughter in your posts! Glad you had a good Christmas and wishing you a Happy New Year!

Well, it is good to see she still has an above normal IQ.
Dec. 27, 2009 5:37 am
thx belinda and rohinda...yep my suggested pre-stroke "exercises" did not go over very well. dang it!
Dec. 27, 2009 7:45 am
I take it Claire is not buying the memory lapse thing you're trying to sell her??? LOL! Nice try!

About Me
i enjoy cooking. the wife considers it a chore. i hate yard work. she loves it. we mesh. i love bass fishing, reading, music, baseball, college football and my family.
My favorite things to cook
i love vegetables, soups, and italian cusine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
holidays are a big deal! christmas is my time to shine. i try to add a new recipe each year, but the family demands pretty much the same menu. kinda frustrating!
My cooking triumphs
i cared for my mother in law about 3 months when she had shattered her shoulder. i didn't work, so money was tight. we survived on only wife's paycheck during that time. ma-n-law had diet restrictions. it was difficult to make cheap, nutritious meals everyone would eat. we prospered as a family and learned alot about each other's strenghths and weaknesses.
My cooking tragedies
a stove top fire. i explained that one already. the grill falling over was another one...oops grill season is here! i love the tragedies...those are the ones that i'll always remember!
