i offered her a trip to ireland or italy for our 27th wedding anniversary, may 1st. she declined, but wanted me to go with her to port angeles, washington to visit and celebrate her great-aunt's 100th birthday. i agreed, we planned to leave july 30th and return a week later. we haven't been on a vacation just us, in a very long time. i got a new doctor today, a young one, an internist, i think. without going into details, her prognosis was  not very good. claire needs maybe two more operations, one for a trach and another for a feeding tube. she has mulipile blood clots, lungs, the vein going from liver to intesetines, and now more discovered in her legs. her left side is motionless except when subjected to pain.  i'm beyond misery. i want the daughters to go  see great-aunt dana. they see their mom and i don't believe they know how critical she is. i've cried all day. i have to make a big decision about her at the time of the surgeries. my mother in law opens and read the cards sent from here to her.  i guess  it's something she likes to do, i never went in claire's purse or opened her mail. i  guess  she has received maybe 25 cards from you kind folks. it is amazing, and a tribute to your humanity! thank you so very much!  i so wish i had more positive things to say. reflexes or responses? i still believe!

As was said in previous posts... we're all here for you.. to give support and whatever else we can possibly give to help out and make this a little less difficult. Still praying for her to come back to you... still prayin that God gives you all strength and courage and hope for better things. I wish there was more that I could say or do to ease your pain.
Jun. 25, 2009 8:38 pm
Gary - I hold you and Claire in my heart and wish you the peace that you deserve right now. I was listening to the radio today and heard a song that made me think of you - My Name is Love - Rob Dickinson. It immediately made me wonder how you and Claire were doing. I am sending my hugs and love your way.
Jun. 25, 2009 8:41 pm
I am sorry you are still suffering. I hope Claire will show signs of improvement soon so that you will be encouraged. We are all pulling for her and you.
Jun. 25, 2009 8:42 pm
Trust the doctors, but trust God more. He will guide you through this. In the meantime, we all offer prayers for Claire, for you and ask that God guide her medical staff. I wish there were something more we could do to help you carry this burden. God Bless you all.

I have been following your story. I am praying for you with every prayer. My dad had a head injury that manifested itself similarly. He was very critical for quite a few weeks-We had to make the decisions about the trach and the g-tube as well. He had both. Everything I read about your story is painfully familiar. He eventually had a lot of rehab (and still does some rehab). Things are different than they were before the accident, but he's here and we've adjusted. His accident was 7 years ago (he was 50 at the time). Looking back it was the most helpless, slow process with the steepest learning curve of anything I know. I am praying for you and your family. Keep Believing. The only thing more amazing than the human brain and how it works is God. Keep your faith in Him. All of our love.
Jun. 25, 2009 8:45 pm
Many Blessings sent your way Gary!
Jun. 25, 2009 8:46 pm
Don't ever give up on your hopes and dreams, or the strength that you two have together.
Jun. 25, 2009 8:47 pm
I can not imagine what you must be going thru. Test of life and all its graciousness. You remember this is hard due to the great compassion and love you share with this woman. Man, as hard as this is remember there will be great things in store. Keep your spirits high, and ask for as much help as you of luck, love, and gods wonderfulness to help you thru this time.

Gary, I think that Sarah and Abby are about the age of my girls, maybe a little younger (20's). You should talk to them about the condition Claire is in. They will be able to handle the truth. I know they are strong; they are the offspring of you and Claire, how could they not be! Yes, you are their support, but let them be yours as well. All of you, and your M-I-L too, are on this road together with Claire, and it's still a long, bumpy road ahead. I'm still praying for you every day, and I pray that God, in his infinite wisdom, will heal your beautiful wife.
Jun. 25, 2009 8:59 pm

Gary. . .hard as it may seem to believe it, MIRACLES do still happen. Claire will have hers. Thank-you, thank-you for keeping us up-to-date. I check often to see if you have posted. As I've said before, I'm surprised at how many times a day she comes to my mind. I think God's just nudging me to pray. I live about 2 hours from you and have thought seriously about driving down there. Maybe I can soon. . . .Would you mind?
Jun. 26, 2009 7:06 am
Gary, I think of you and Claire every day and check for new blogs hoping for positive updates. You two are in my prayers and meditations daily. Please don't lose hope and keep talking to her as much as possible when you're holding her hand. I believe she might be listening. In my experience I've listened to my heart and not always the doctors and I've been in similar circumstances. Keep the faith. Lot's of hugs....

Try to stay strong...I still believe Claire is going to be okay. A friend of mine at work's sister in-law became very very ill last year. She had a 10% chance of survival and things seem to get worse every week. Every day my friend would come in and update us. Nobody thought she could survive and even if she did, it seemed hopeless that she would have quality of life. Well, that was last August. Last month she and her husband celebrated in fine style at their anniversary. She came through and is doing fine. It truly is amazing what the human body can endure. Try to stay strong. I believe Claire is going to be okay. Sue

Gary, I hear your pain and anguish. Remember, God is in control at all times. Some times we do not understand the "why". Sending much love and prayers.
Jun. 26, 2009 10:12 pm
Gary, we are still praying hard for you and Claire, here in Washington. Much love to you all. Just wanted to say that I would want my daughters (23 and 26) to be fully aware of my condition if I were in Claire's situation. Also, we are praying for the Lord to give all of you the physical and emotional strength to get through these difficult days. I know it is very hard to praise Him in the midst of trials, but please try to read some Psalms out of the Bible, to Claire. He can speak to our hearts when reading His Word, and bring much peace no matter the circumstances. I know I sound like a broken record (!) but when we are weak, He is strong. Lean on Him, and trust Him for His perfect will. We just don't understand His ways, but they are perfect. I'm praying that you have a pastor you can talk with, and who can come and pray for Claire there in the hospital. If you don't have one, can you look around for one? A good Bible teaching church should be willing to send a minister to pray with you and your family. God bless you Gary, and your sweet Claire, and Moose and Gator. ♥

prayers and love , to you and your family.keep faith and beleive,God is listening .MAY GOD KEEP YOU ALL STRONG. IN JESUS NAME
Jun. 28, 2009 6:33 am
Gary, May God strengthen you all to find joy in the midst of heartache, gladness in the midst of sorrow, and peace in the midst of your storm. May God strengthen you mind body and soul; and may God bless Claire to restore her body to health and heal her. May the Lord place a hedge about your lives to keep you, and send His best for you. And finally, may He work through the doctors to grant them wisdom and expertise to accurately diagnose and treat Claire. Please remember also that there is much wisdom and strength to be found in a worthy confidante. God bless. kdstreet

Gary, I am still praying for God's strength for you and your family. I pray that He will place His healing hands on Claire and, whatever His plan for her is, that he will give you all the strength to come through it with your faith and your love increased. I am sending huge hugs to you and all three of your ladies. I would like to suggest that you sit down with Moose and Gator and have a heart to heart with them about their mom's condition. You can ask for a hospital counselor to be present if you think it will help. I know it will be one of the most difficult things you've done and I'm not suggesting that you crush any hopes you all have, but it is best for the girls to be prepared for any outcome possible. Let them know that YOU STILL BELIEVE and that you are still hopeful, trusting in God's mercy to heal Claire, but be certain they understand what the doctors are saying. Also, if there is anything the doctors say that YOU do not understand, never be afraid to ask them to clarify it for you. Sometimes medical professionals slip into the habit of using big medical terms and you have to remind them that you're just a lay person. We love you, gderr. Hang in there, sweetheart. HUGS!

About Me
i enjoy cooking. the wife considers it a chore. i hate yard work. she loves it. we mesh. i love bass fishing, reading, music, baseball, college football and my family.
My favorite things to cook
i love vegetables, soups, and italian cusine.
My favorite family cooking traditions
holidays are a big deal! christmas is my time to shine. i try to add a new recipe each year, but the family demands pretty much the same menu. kinda frustrating!
My cooking triumphs
i cared for my mother in law about 3 months when she had shattered her shoulder. i didn't work, so money was tight. we survived on only wife's paycheck during that time. ma-n-law had diet restrictions. it was difficult to make cheap, nutritious meals everyone would eat. we prospered as a family and learned alot about each other's strenghths and weaknesses.
My cooking tragedies
a stove top fire. i explained that one already. the grill falling over was another one...oops grill season is here! i love the tragedies...those are the ones that i'll always remember!
