About this Cook
My name is Candace, I'm 28, and married to an Army CPT, Steve. We are expecting our first little on in March 2011! I love photography and spend a lot of time documenting my cooking and baking dishes.
My favorite things to cook
I like to make a lot of desserts, especially cheesecake, and chicken dishes. I'm experimenting in different cuisines--most recently Moroccan since I got a tagine :o)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom cooked almost every meal growing up--traditional holiday meals always include some sort of Chinese dish.
My cooking triumphs
My first Thanksgiving spread in 2008 entirely from scratch included brining a turkey, apple & sage stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, cranberry sauce, kugel, the Schwab fruit salad, acorn squash, zucchini cornbread casserole, green beans & carmalized onions, apple & pumpkin pie. I've also cooked an kosher Passover spread complete with turkey and matzo stuffing.
My cooking tragedies
Nothing major as of yet--just small things like curdling cream (wasn't watching it)

Campbell's(R) Chicken Broccoli Twist
I was looking for a quick and easy dinner to make and came across this recipe since I had most of the ingredients already. My husband is preparing to run his first marathon so I've been carbing him up all week. I did not have cream of broccoli so I used cream of chicken instead. I read in the other reviews that it was a little bland so I added some paprika, sage and pepper...that seemed to do the trick! I also seasoned some chicken tenderloins with the same spices (and a bit of salt) and broiled it while everything else was cooking since I didn't have chicken in a can. Once I put everything together, it was very tasty and flavorful!

Butternut Squash Kugel I
This was delicious! I made this for Passover substituting 1/2c potato starch for the flour. I also used a whole butternut squash that I had laying around. It was a big hit at dinner and this will be a staple for every big holiday meal!

Old Fashioned Potato Kugel
This is great! I made this for Passover and substituted some celery root so it was about 50/50 with the potatoes. It helps cut down the glycemic index and also adds vitamin K, not to mention some great flavor. Other than that, I followed the recipe to a tee and it was a hit!
