Me and My Baby
About this Cook
Air Force wife and mother of four. Now that the kids are older, I'm juggling cooking for two, cooking for six, and cooking when my sons bring a friend (think lumberjack). I am a research junkie, a writer, and a voracious reader. I also make jewelry--it helps me remember I'm female!
My favorite things to cook
Pork tenderloin, because it's so simple and delicious--although my teenage sons eat half of it before it's served; chicken in all its variations; and those veggies that steam in the bag. (Oops, did I write that out loud?)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Barbecue ribs--these are beef ribs, fat removed, homemade sauce, and a full day of cooking. Worth every minute. Chocolate chip cookies are another favorite, using my late mother's recipe.
My cooking triumphs
I love my cream puffs filled with French silk and dusted with cocoa; but I've had requests for those chocolate chip cookies from around the world.
My cooking tragedies
Last Thanksgiving, after 20 years of tender, juicy, *perfect* turkey, I "down-sized" to a small turkey breast. It was so dry and unappealing, even I wouldn't eat it.

Sweet Dinner Rolls
Terrific! I followed the recipe exactly, except my butter was warmed to mush. My bread maker doesn't have a rise cycle, but I left the dough in it until it doubled. By then the kitchen was busy, so I sliced the dough with a pizza cutter, rounded off a dozen larger pieces and put them in a muffin tin, snipped off a bunch of smaller pieces and put them 3 - 4 in another muffin tin. I smeared some butter on them, put a towel over them, and let them rise again. The actual rolls rose better than the snipped pieces, but that may have been my impatience. The rolls cooked for 12 minutes, the "snippets" for 11. I brushed the finished rolls with butter. I came out with 21 rolls that everyone loved and a new family favorite.

Cheese Filling
I changed this to 6 servings, and made it in less than ten minutes. Other than size, I didn't change the recipe, and it is delicious! Very simple, very good.

Classic Butter Cookies II
These were so dry, we couldn't even make cookies with them. On the plus side, the dough was really good raw.
