About this Cook
I live in Florida now after moving from California in 2005. Love it here more than CA. as the weather is much more gentle to the skin. CA is SO DRY and I missed rain. CA has 9 in. a year. FL has 265 in a year. I paint, swim, ride a bicycle and tutor elementary kids in reading and math.
My favorite things to cook
Fish, desserts and Indian food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
None. My mother was a lousy cook, so was my grandmother. The only thing my mother cooked very well was apple pie. They were fabulous. She cooked meat to a black shriveled nob of ???? She wasn't too bad with vegetables though. Ibecame a vegetarian at age 6 and stayed one 'til I was 21.
My cooking triumphs
Made a complete Indian dinner of seven curried dishes for a party and ground all the spices. Followed an Indian recipe book and it was a tremendous success. Everyone at the dinner party, 8 of them, loved the food and so did I. It was delicious.
My cooking tragedies
We were defrosting a turkey for Thanksgiving in October 1980 in Canada and left the covered turkey in the sink to defrost. We had two Siamese cats at the time and came home to a chewed turkey in the sink. They had been attacking the turkey all the time we were out. My husband cut off the chewed parts, cooked the turkey and we and our guests enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner.. ps they never knew, the guests I mean

Potato Salmon Patties
I made this using left over mashed potatoes. It was delicious. I used two cans of salmon, red pepper, shallots, Italian seasoning and Italian breadcrumbs. Sauteed shallots, red pepper in olive oil and the juice from the salmon. Added the salmon and broke it up. Spiced with Italian seasonings. When shallots were softened added to 2 cups of mashed potatoes and mixed. Added Italian breadcrumbs until a bit dryer and two beaten eggs. Mixed well and covered. Put in fridge for 30 mins. Made patties then and rolled in breadcrumbs. Cook in olive oil in frying pan until golden on both sides. Delicious. Actually froze 4 of the salmon cakes for another meal.
