Buttermilk Chess Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2014
I used 3 Tablespoons of flour because I thought that's what I read. It is delicious and I made a second one and used 3T instead of 2T just because it was so good. 50 minutes at 350, turned the oven off and left it in the oven for another 10 minutes, took it out to cool. Cut it while it was still too hot to eat and it did not run. No clear liquid, zero liquid! This reminds me of pies my mother would bring home sometimes when I was a child. We called them custard pies. Doesn't matter what you call them they are fantastic. Thanks Kristina for a simple and most delicious recipe.

Mom's Best Peanut Brittle

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2014
Wow! I don't know how it could be better. I doubled the recipe and added raw peanuts(2 1/2C) when the sugar and water 1st boiled. I used 1C white and 1C light brown. Stirred frequently until 300* hit on candy thermometer. Added 2t vanilla, butter and baking soda. Poured on warmed cookie sheet lined with parchment. Shook, tilted and spread with wooden spoon and let cool. Really fantastic! Here's a tip from Julia Child's television show. Boil 2c of water and add 3T baking soda, throw in the nuts and boil for 4 or 5 minutes, rinse with cool water and the skins come off the peanuts easy.

Best Burger Ever

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2014
Love these burgers. Followed recipe with two changes. I chopped a fresh onion and tossed with a tspn of olive oil and softened in the oven before adding to the rest of the ingredients and I did not add the dry soup mix.

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
Love this recipe. Was looking for alternatives and substitutions and found this one. Pretty sure 2quarts of red wine vinegar and 1/4 C olive oil is wrong.

Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2011
Added a little garlic powder and parsley flakes. I split and pounded the breast because I prefer a cutlet to a thick piece of chicken. Also dusted with flour before dredging in the eggwash. Simply delicious. This is my recipe for life. Thanks CASSJW

Red Enchilada Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2011
Tast good. I agree at first it tasted more italian. Simmered a little longer and added 2 cubes of semi-sweet chocolate and added more chili powder, it tastes much better now. Think next time i'll reduce the basil and oregano a little.

Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2011
Taste great. I couldn't get all of the egg/milk to fit so next time I'll cut that in half. Used 3T of butter and a little olive oil and a little more garlic. Could not find herb feta so I did as others and herbed it up myself. I also baked my pie crust blind for 8 minutes as some suggested. Next time I will bake blind 6 minutes. Will definitely do this one again. Thanks Bailey for sharing.

Yogurt Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2011
Great fluffy and light bisuits. I bake bread and pies often with good results. I have not been successful until now with biscuits. 1st batch I followed the recipe exactly and they were great. I even had all the ingredients on hand. 2nd batch I substituted whole grain pastry flour and a little bleached all purpose about 90-10. Should have reduced yogurt but did not and the batter was too moist to knead. I scraped the mix onto my prepared pan and baked 8 minutes longer at 375 and these were indescribably delicious. I will never try another biscuit recipe. This one is perfect for us. If you have the whole grain pastry or some other whole grain give it a try!

Very good! I only had green bellpepper on hand and it was still delicious. Reduced the oil as suggested by others. Thanks for sharing this recipe I am sure this one will be used many times.

Basic Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
Jeez this was easy. Turned on the oven, made the dough, kneaded for a few minutes, cut my toppings, rolled the crust, baked the crust 10 minutes, topped it and baked it another 10 minutes. It was fabulous. Thanks Beverly it could only be better and easier if I convinced my wife to do it for me.

Traditional English Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
Delicious! Reduced the honey by 1/3. Kneaded the dough and let rise to 2bl, punched down and then placed in the fridge. Dough more than doubled overnight . Took the dough out and rolled cold, cut with a 28oz can, let them rise once more and dusted with semolina instead of cornmeal and griddled instead of baking. I halved the recipe and made 12. I will definitely use this recipe many times in the future.

Lemon Icebox Pie I

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2011
Boy was this easy! Just popped it in the fridge and can't wait. My wife's favorite is lemon ice box pie. If I had known how easy this was I would have done one a long time ago. Will update results tomorrow. Five stars on ease of preparation.

Homemade Tomato Sauce II

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2011
This was very good. I don't eat meat so I needed a sauce that didn't use any bacon, pork, beef or chicken. I followed a tip offered in one of the other reviews and added 2 peeled and split carrots. This did cut the acidity. I might throw in a pinch of sugar but only because I like my sauce a little on the sweet side. I substituted 2 tbsp of olive oil for the vegetable oil. Thanks Mirella Cina this will be my sauce for life.

Southern Sweet Potato Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2010
This pie is fantastic. I added a few drops of vanilla extract. Otherwise I just followed the recipe. I doubt if it is making a big difference. I don't know how it could taste any better. Raves from all who have tried it. Some even compared it to the pie their mother baked. Now how complimentary is that?

Jenny's Black Forest Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2009
Very good cake. Used cherry pie filling with whipped cream a couple of times, real good. Favorite is cake with a scoop of whipped cream on top. One problem, every time I bake it the middle of the cake is collapsed, every time. Baked at least 6 times so 12 pans and everytime collapsed.
