Chocolate Babka

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
Loved it, and it was a hit! Like an Eastern European Pain au Chocolat. :) This will join regular rotation in my baking and will be a good starting point for other filled breads.

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2009
This is definitely a 5 star sandwich! It is a super-popular, super-easy crowd pleaser for casual entertaining. We get the veggies and mayo ready ahead of time, then throw it together just before company arrives and serve w/salad and sweet potato fries. It's a good base recipe for endless combos of veggies, cheese, spread, and bread--though it's hard to beat the combo here. Thanks!

Houska

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
I love houska! It's a family tradition on my dad's side. Our recipe from great-grandma is hard to decipher (not structured at all), so I am excited to try this. It seems lighter than ours, in a good way--thanks for sharing! We always add golden raisins and almonds in the batter--maybe 1/4 c each per loaf, to your taste. And we sprinkle almonds on the top. This is SO GOOD warm or toasted. Thank you! (Check out our family's Kolacki recipe--Czech cookies.)

Spanakopita (Greek Spinach Pie)

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
Wonderful! Be really careful with the moisture, as everyone said--dry the spinach well and let it cool. Don't overdo the oil on the phyllo, either--I used less than called for. We added a bit more feta as well. Good leftovers, good out of the freezer.

Moroccan Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
We loved this soup, though I must admit we tweaked the spices some to meet our tastes. We pureed all of the soup as well--it had a lovely texture. We served with yogurt sauce and pitas. Yummy!

Vegetarian Jambalaya

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
My husband followed this recipe to a T and I was shocked by how yummy it was. Great with sour cream, we also wrapped leftovers in tortillas. This is getting a permanent rotation at our house.

Zucchini Corn Fritters

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
Great fun-food, but a tad more sophisticated. I served it on a bed of greens with a salsa-ranch dressing. I cut the butter in half also. The batter is a good base and can be used with all kinds of veggies and spices for different kinds of fritters.

Marrakesh Vegetable Curry

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
Very nice, though my sweet-tooth husband added a pinch of sugar while it simmered.

Sweet and Nutty Moroccan Couscous

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2008
We cut the butter as well but it affected the texture quite a bit--it didn't stay together as well as it would have. Excellent flavor, though!

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos

Reviewed: May 27, 2008
Love it! We prefer black beans to kidney beans, they go great with the sweet potatoes. And there are all kinds of ways to play with the spices and garnish. Would be great with grilled onions and extra cheese . . .

Fabulous Oatmeal-Bran Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2008
People go crazy every time I make this! I often switch out applesauce for the shortening, and it's still wonderfully moist. For something more indulgent, I make a cream cheese icing and decorate with toasted almonds and coconut. This cake is famous!
