Vanilla Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Super easy, and tastes great. This recipe is for anyone who is making homemade ice cream for the first time or someone who just doesn't want to be bothered with the eggs. The only thing I'll do different next time is double the recipe!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2008
Don't know what happened, but my cookies weren't fat - chewy yes, and that is about it. Nothing special. It still just isn't 'that' chocolate chip cookie for me. I'll keep looking, but I know that when I want a chewy cookie, this is the one I'll go to.

Frog Cupcakes

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2008
I made these for my mom's bake sale, and they came out cute - time consuming - but cute. I probably won't make them again though (no bad reason I just won't)I did have a few problems with the marshmallows not standing up, but that was all. I used M&M's for the eyes, and made my colored sugar with the Colored Sugar recipe from this site so I wouldn't have to go buy some. Can't wait to hear how they sell.

Vicki's Hush Puppies

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I gave this recipe three stars because it's a good start, but doesn't have everything. For those of you complaining that it's too bland - you need to put some seasonings in this - I know you didn't expect you were just going to eat onion, flour, cornmeal, and sugar and it was going to taste great!? Try putting garlic powder, black pepper, seasoning salt, cajun seasoning, and red pepper flakes in it to kick it up. I know it sounds like a lot - but start with a little and go up from there - this is really trial and error - season it to how you like it - if you like hot - add spicy seasonings - if you like salty - kick up the salt. Cook a couple then taste it to see if you like what you put in it and then add more or next time you know to add less. Also cook these on medium-low heat - it takes a little longer, but they are able to cook all the way through without getting too dark. Also you need milk for this start out with a little and add it as you go along - your batter should be moist, but it should still hold it's shape and be kinda thick - to test it scoop up a spoonful of it and it should take it a few seconds before it falls off of the spoon. Also when they're done, sprinkle a little salt on them.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
This was just great! I served it with French bread on the side. I always season my meat before I cook a soup or stew because it adds the extra flavor - so if you don't follow other reviewers and do the flour mixture. I used fresh parsley and crushed the rosemary because I didn't like the fact that it looks like pine needles.I used three cans of beef broth instead of the cubes I also used canned potatoes and carrots and poured their juices over into the pot I did use fresh celery and onion. Everything boiled down niceley and I tripled the cornstarch. Once again this was great!!!

Easy Black Bottom Cupcakes

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
These were really REALLY good, and SUPER easy! I did like others suggested and doubled the cream cheese, used one cup sugar, added an egg, and 2 tsp. of vanilla extract into the cake mix, and I had fresh lemons on hand so I squeezed half into the mixture. I also made the mistake of buying regular sized chocolate chips - no worries though because I just chopped them up and they worked fine. I bought a whipped frosting from the store and mixed the other half of the lemon into that. I got a good 3 dozen out of these and had extra cream cheese left over - I'm gonna use that for bagels :P,I will make these again because my family ate them up in a good 20 minutes...lol...they love their sweets! And maybe next time when I have more time I'll make the cupcakes from scratch.

BBQ Chicken Pizza I

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2008
This is more like 4.5 stars. I enjoyed it. I just used some left over BBQ chicken we had and store bought BBQ sauce. Couldn't find the Gouda so we got pizza cheese, mozzarella, and asiago. I didn't use a half a bunch of cilantro, just enough to cover the pizza and have a little in every bit, but I'll probably cut back even more on it, because even though I liked it, I thought it was strong, and I burped it all night :( This pizza is a good change of pace from the normal. Will make again.

Gourmet Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
This is so good! All of my favortie things in one meal! Everything works so perfectly together! The key is using your favorite Ranch dressing. I sprinkled a bit of Italian Seasoning and Garlic Powder on top of mine before sticking it in the oven. I will never go out and buy another pizza like this, I will be making this at home from now on!

Hamburger Soup I

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2008
This was great! I added three teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, elbow macaroni, and instead of using the beef cubes and water I used three cans beef broth - I should have bough five because as it boiled down the veggies ate up the liquid so mine came out more like a stew and was thick and hearty - my family still liked it and said that they were sure it would be good either way. My grandmother suggested serving it with Italian bread. Will make this again and will be sure to add more broth so that it actually turns out like a soup. Still good either way though! And it makes your house smell wonderful!

Play Dough Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
Couldn't give this five stars because I didn't use the recipe - I used another sugar cookie recipe that I cook with because most said they didn't like the taste. But boy were these fun and they look so cute! I made them for a bake sale at my mom's school and used Halloween colors...I will be making these for every holiday from now on!

Corn Dogs

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
Sounds crazy, but I had a dream about corn dogs and since I didn't have any frozen ones, I decided to make them and they came out wonderfully. I didn't have any skewers, but that didn't matter. I added a couple extra seasonings - garlic powder, red pepper, and some italian seasoning to kick them up a bit for my own taste. They came out great!

Bobbie's Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2008
OMG! WOW! These cookies are AMAZING! I made these cookies for my grandmother - she just wanted plain oatmeal cookies so I excluded the pecans and other things. This recipe doesn't call for 1 tsp. cinnamon, but I promise you it will make the cookie! I added a few chocolate chips and walnuts to some cookies for myself and baked them for 12 minutes to get a little browner - these cookies are so soft and taste so good! You must try these!

Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies II

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2008
I don't know what happened, but these cookies didn't stay soft and they didn't spread out, and they weren't sweet enough. My uncle said the chocolate chips saved the cookie. Still, they weren't awful, but I'll keep looking for another recipe.

Mini Cheesecakes

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2008
Everyone thought these were great! Plus they were so pretty! I didn't use the wafer instead I made a crust with the Graham Cracker Crust recipe on this site. I thought they could have been sweeter - but like I said everyone else thought they were great.

Banana Muffins with a Crunch

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2008
These were really good! I gave it four stars because some people in my family can't eat nuts or coconut, including granola. So I made some without any of that and instead put a crumb topping on them using brown sugar, butter, and flour, a recipe from this site. Then others I added the walnuts and crumb topping, and some others I sprinkled cinnamon on top for extra flavor - they turned out amazing. I highly suggest if you have everything this recipe calls for - use it - it makes it so much better!

Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2008
This was my first time making egg custard and it was pretty good. I didn't scald the milk - I just threw everything into the bowl and mixed it all together. I added two more eggs and kept the other ingredients the same. I added a drop of lemon extract and I had enough for two pies. Next time, just because of my families prefrences I'll add more lemon, extra nutmeg and maybe some cinnamon. This was a good basic pie, not as good as the one I'm use to, the only hard part was getting it to not spill out of the sides of the pie crust while trying to get it into the oven.

One Egg Lemon Pound Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
This was just okay to me and my family. Like others said it needs more lemon, and it bakes for an hour, my mom suggested putting a glaze on top. Also mine came out a little crumbly, but with a little TLC this could be a five star pound cake!

This was pretty good. Instead of making the biscuits I went to the store and bought some. They did great! I was thinking that after awhile the biscuits would be soggy, but they weren't. I would make this again.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2008
Great cookies! I left mine in the oven for 12 minutes, which wasn't a problem because everyone's stove is different, and I just used the whole bag of chips because there were only a palmful left after the 2 cups, otherwise, great soft, chewy cookies. Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, just the right size. This is a keeper and I will be making these again!
