Sweet and Sour Sauce I

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2011
Wow! Made this for New Years and served with homemade crab ragoon. Much better than anything you can get in a jar. So easy to make too.

Mississippi Mud Cake II

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2011
This is really more like a brownie than a cake. It is pretty dense, really chewy... and really fabulous! I'd definitely make it again. I made this recipe exactly as noted, except I also ground up some Oreos and added on top the icing, to give the "mud" cake a "dirt" topping. I also added some gummy worms on top just for fun.

Cannellini Bean Soup with Kale and Garlic-Olive Oil Crostini Recipe : Dave Lieberman : Food Network

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
Replaced the kale with ham bone and ham. Who needs veggies when you've got meat? It was fabulous. The perfect comfort food for a cold winter day.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2010
So flavorful and moist. It also freezes really well. It was still as flavorful and moist after I defrosted it from the freezer. Just slice and freeze, then take out of the freezer and warm in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Bloody Mary Shrimp Recipe at Epicurious.com

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
Very spicy. Would cut the horseradish and tabasco in half for sure. Other than that, very flavorful. Would definitely make again.

Slow Cooker Garlic Pork Roast and Sweet Potatoes Recipe from Betty Crocker

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2010
Oh my gosh! This was so good and so easy. I have a pot roast recipe that is very similar using beef and white potatoes. This was so much better! My husband and I love sweet potatoes. I used chicken broth when making this, but might try apple juice next time to see if it adds to the flavor. This is now on my favorite slow cooker recipe list!

Bitter Orange Crème Brûlée Recipe at Epicurious.com

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2010
For my first every creme brulee attempt, I chose this recipe. Mostly because it called for orange, and I had about a dozen oranges in the fridge. I thought it turned out pretty good for my first try. Burning the sugar on top is a little tricky. Sugar that was more coarse seemed to melt better than finer sugar, which seemed to burn too quickly. Would definitely make this again.

Cooks.com - Recipe - Lemon Meringue Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2010
Yum! This was like eating cotton candy. The only changes I made were to change out the lemon zest with orange zest, and to double the recipe! It's so good!

Apple Puff Pancake

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
This was a lot more dense than the traditional puffed apple pancake recipe I usually make from a recipe from my husband's grandmother. Not as good as grandma's recipe, but still good. It makes a pretty big pan and is extremely filling. Like some of the other reviewers mentioned, I also mixed the brown sugar into the apples at the bottom of the pan which gave it a nice caramel coating. Make sure you are hungry when you make it!

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
This is my new favorite banana bread recipe, even topping the one I got from my sister. I think it is the brown sugar that makes this one so good.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
If you are looking for a great apple and pork recipe, you've found it! This creates a great caramel sauce as well, which is the perfect topping. We were vacationing in the fall in Point Reyes, California, when we tried it for the first time. Our vacation rental house had an apple tree that was at its peak, and used apples from that tree and fresh pork chops from a local butcher. Yum!

Country Green Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
This was fantastic. I even had to make a few substitutions because I didn't have all the ingredients on hand, and it still turned out great! Had to leave out the ham, and substituted garlic salt for fresh garlic because that's what I had. Also substituted the onion with a shallot, for even better flavor. Will definitely be making again.

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2010
These are very good and much easier than the recipe I normally make from the Better Homes & Gardens plaid cookbook. I liked that it used regular sugar instead of powdered sugar too, since I didn't have any powdered sugar on hand.

Jalapeno Chicken II

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2010
This was really good. Have a ton of jalapenos in the garden, and this is an excellent way to have them. It's like a jalapeno popper inside grilled chicken. Served over spaghetti and homemade sauce, similar to chicken parmesean, but with a kick!

Shrimp Tacos

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2010
I'd give 10 stars if I could! I did modify the recipe a bit though, making it more of a savory than sweet dish. I didn't have mango, so just left it out. Replaced the red onion with shallot. And cooked the shrimp in butter, garlic and a little lemon juice, leaving out the honey. Delicious!

This was so good! Didn't have the garlic chile paste, so just used cayenne pepper instead. Used on some great butterfly pork chops.

Linguine Pasta with Shrimp and Tomatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2010
This was excellent! The only changes I made were to add a jalapeno from my garden to the sauce in the last 5 minutes of cooking, and used cayenne pepper in place of the cajun seasoning using only 1/2 the called for amount since I had added the jalapeno to the sauce. Served with homemade linguine. A great way to use tomatoes from the garden!

Four Cheese Margherita Pizza

This was incredible. Used a Boboli crust and tomatoes from my garden. Also used a five-cheese blend that included mozarella and some other white cheeses (but not fontina and feta. This is a keeper!

Easy Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2010
This was very good. Was looking for an easy cobbler where I didn't have to cook the peaches ahead of time before baking it. This was it. It was interesting in how it turned out at the end. I layered all the peaches on top, but when it baked, they sank to the bottom and the crust ended up all golden brown, and delicious on top, just as if I had put it on top at the beginning. Very tasty.
