Apple Banana Cupcakes

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
I reduced the sugar to 1 cup and substituted the shortening for unsweetened applesauce. After 25 mins. the outside was done, but the inside was a soggy mess. I baked them for an addt.'l 10 mins., but the inside was still gooey, soggy..not edible.

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
I was really looking forward to trying this recipe. I've made a lot of breads, pizza dough, etc. over the years, but never hamburger buns. What a disappointment and waste of ingredients. The buns were dense with a coarse texture, not what I expected based on all the positive reviews.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: May 22, 2010
I followed the recipe exactly as written, but I don't quite understand all the rave reviews. To me, this cookie tastes very similar to the original Nestle' Toll House recipe, which I never cared for as it makes a flat, greasy cookie. Not a keeper at our house.

Brick-Oven Pizza (Brooklyn Style)

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2008
This is the best pizza crust recipe I've found. I've been making pizzas for over 10 yrs. as the only delivery in our area is Dominos, which my husband doesn't care for. I've lost count of how many dough recipes I've tried..some basic, some very involved. A few were fairly good, some downright awful. This one is easy and makes a delicious crust every time. I switched one cup all purpose flour for one cup bread flour and added 1/4 tsp. garlic powder to the crushed tomatoes. After the dough is formed, I brush on a little olive oil, spread the sauce, sprinkle with dried oregano and grated cheese, then top with mozzarella cheese and drizzle a little olive oil over the top. This is so good my husband would have it every night of the week if it were up to him.

Banana Prune Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2008
I sat these on the counter to cool, came back, and my husband (who hates bananas and prunes)had eaten 3 already. He thought the prunes were raisins. I didn't change a thing in the recipe; they're quite good as is. I used paper liners and they peeled right off. I will definitely make these again. Next time I'll try using a little of the flour when chopping the prunes. They are so sticky.
