'Calabacitas Guisada' (Stewed Mexican Zucchini)

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2011
I didnt need to use that much oil and I left out the salt completely. It is still absolutely fantastic and it will be dropping into my usual rotation because of the simplicity and a great way to use up the 4 most common ingredients at my house, onions, garlic, tomatoes and zucchini!

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
simply amazing! I didnt have basil but i decieded to be creative and added some bay leaf instead. i also used miricle whip in place of mayo and the lemon juice. it wasnt as liquidy and had to be smashed down out of ball shapes so i wouldnt reccomend doing that substitution, but the recipe as written was very good!

Slow Cooker Guisado Verde

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2011
Very good. I made a few changes to fit personal preferances, such as using a leaner cut, and left out the cilantro completely, and used no canned products but instead used all fresh ingredients. Tasted wonderful and even better when topped with a dash of sour cream

Six Can Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
this was SOOOO good. Make sure when making your shopping list you include cheese and torilla shells or chips. I just used listed ingrediants and had to go back to get the rest! Silly me! i was making it for servings for 1 so i didnt follow directions exactly and i ended up putiing to much tomatos with chili, so it was really spicy. the only thing i didnt like was that it doesnt look that good (the soup looked blackish)

Cabbage Fat-Burning Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2008
I just made it today. I agree with the whole, it is a huge recipe and it does take a long time to simmer. I added red pepper flakes to mine in the last 40 minutes of simmering because it didnt taste like it had enough flavor, but now i regret it because after letting it simmer even more it came out wonderful and the underlying taste would have been great without the red pepper. it was very filling and i can see how it would lead to weight lose. i will update later with the results! *******EDIT****** So, it is now 2 weeks later. I ate this soup for the first 5 days, and then ate it as every other meal for anotehr 3 days (4 meals a day) and then ate it once a day for the rest of the time until i ran out... I am down 10 pounds in a little over 2 weeks! I did start doing an extra 30 minutes of walking durning that time also, but there is no way all the weight lost could account for that!

Sambusa

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2008
amazing!! i had trouble with the wrappers because i am a klutz, and it was a little oilier on the inside then i like, but i think that was my fault too. Even with my mess up, i am making these every week! and 1 wrapper fille me up! they are soo good... By-the-way, i used deer meat (yes it is halal) and left out the leek and used just a little extra onion and it was still good

i loved this. DH will not eat pasta, but he thought the chicken looked good enough to steal a bite of mine. i ended up having to make the just the chicken without pasta for DH later that night.

Oatmeal and Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
i used a can of stewed tomatos (which has some good tomato broth packed with it) and it was REALLY good. I only used about 1/4 of a teaspoon of salt. only 4 stars though because i have tasted better soups for sure. but for the simplicity and way to make something out of a bare cupboard it was good.

Crispy Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
on a personal basis i would only give this a 1 star. i didnt like it. I guess it just wasnt like what we used to get back home. But my husband loved it and asked me to try and make it again with a little bit of spicy kick next time. any food he will eat is a pleasure for me though.. so 4 stars it is!

Ghoraiybah

It was weaker on the cardomom taste then what i wanted and i added 4 times the cardomom. It was also very crumbly but that could be due to my extra cardomom added in.

It is a nice alternative to cheesy hashbrowns, but it lacked a wow factor.

Thirty Minute Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2009
this was alright. I know it looks bad in the photo. but it wasnt THAT terrible tasting. i just found it a little to "prepackaged" tasting and probably will not make it again. but then again what can you expect, it did come from a packet mostly.

Easy Pancakes

they were bland, even for a pancake. I did 3 teaspoons baking powder and i had to add a bit of flour because they just would not thicken up.

Middle Eastern Stuffed Zucchini

Reviewed: May 19, 2008
ok, so i will admit i am not good at following directions. i already have had this many times, so i added more lamb per Dh's request. also, tweeked the spices slightly because i have the imported spices from saudi. very good and still a favorite in my house but i had a hard time getting the sauce to seem not too watery

Roasted Turkey and Pan Gravy

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
it was really bland. it needs more spices added to the gravy. I will never be making this again. If you try it, try it once before your big day.. because you would hate to be disaapoinnted by this bland recipe
