Grandma's Meat Sauce

I'v been making this for years. The only thing I do differently is I have started grinding my spices up. It shortens the simmering time to about an hour.So when I get home from work at 4pm I can still have dinner on by 6:30 if I hurry. I also use whole wheat pasta with flax seed from hodgson mills.

Grain and Nut Whole Wheat Pancakes

Easy Herb Roasted Turkey

for a 12 pound turkey at 325 it would take a lot longer than 3 1/2 hours to cook. I always cook my turkeys at 325. They tend to be alittle less dry. The turkey is basted with the olive oil and herbs not smothered in it. The olive oil should not pour off of the turkey if it is you are putting on too much of the oil and herb mixture. Think about painting a room. You put on enough paint to coat the walls not so much the paint pools on the floor under the walls. Doing this the turkey juices should be flavored with the herbs not oily.

Creamy Buttermilk Dressing

I was looking for a ranch style dressing. My husband is allergic to soy, onions and msg. The stores simply don't sell a dressing without at least one or more of these. I made this dressing with store bought mayo. I loved it. Now I have to find a mayo recipe so my husband can use it without risking a reacion. All mayos out there seem to be made with soybean oil as the first ingredient.

Pecan Pumpkin Biscuits

I liked the recipe inspite of my mistake. I was in a hurry to get them done and forgot to cut in the butter. I'm sure they will taste even better next time. I gave them four stars instead of five because I thought they were to sweet. Next time I'll reduce the amount of sugar. Probably to about 2tsp.

White Cheese Chicken Lasagna

I loved this recipe. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about the prep time for. I was in a hurry to get dinner on the table. So I did make a few changes. I left out the ricotta cheese, my husband doesn't like it, I also used rotini noodles. I didn't have spinach so I skipped them. Although to late I thought to add broccoli. I will add it next time. I then just added mixed everything together in the pot I used to make the white sauce. ON top I added the last of the cheese and put the lid on the pot to let the cheese melt. From start to finnish it took me 45 minutes to make it. Maybe a food processor would help people to cut down on the prep time. I just toss the cheese in and grind it instead of grating it. Once everything is melted you can't tell the difference.I put the noodles on to cook at the same time the chicken was cooking and while that was cooking I made the white sauce. As soon as the sauce was done I checked and the noodles and chicken were done so I drained the noodles and cut up the chicken. It was really very quick and easy.

Cheddar Biscuit Cups

I was looking for a dumpling recipe when I found this one for biscuits.This works great and tastes great as long as you add 1 egg to the recipe. Without the egg they fall apart not that my husband seemed to notice. I forgot to add the garlic. I bet they taste even better with the garlic. Thank you

Texas Hash

My mother used to make this when we were kids. After I got married I tried to make it for my husband. My mother never showed us how to make it and I didn't have a phone to ask her how. I also didn't know what it was called so by trial and error I made it using my memory of what it should taste like. My mother never did know what it was called and I thought she just made it up. Imagine my suprise to stumble on this old family recipe on this sight and finaly have a name to give it when I serve it to my family. Thank you

Shortcut Refried Beans

I was just looking at the recipes for refried beans a little amused at the thought of a recipe for this. I always thought everyone knew how to make refried beans. I have to admit I have found some new ideas I hadn't thought of before. Then I found this particular recipe. I was so excited I had to try it out right away never mind that dinner is already done and eaten. I am truly hoping that this will turn out great. It would be great when I am short on beans and someone drops in. If it turns out I will be sure to share it with all of my friends and relatives. Although the beans are not done yet they are not grainy. I think the problem for the cook who said the beans just would not get done is old beans. Old beans will not cook up well. Try buying the beans at a store that has a high turnover rate.An area with a high Mexican population would be good especially at a Mexican store. They turned out great. I will definitly use this again. Try adding a small amount of garlic and onion for even more flavor.

Low-Fat Refried Beans

The only thing missing is the salt. Adding butter instead of salt doesn't sound very good. If you want to add the fat lard is more traditional and in this is actually better. Although that would defeat the purpase of a low fat dish.

Refried Beans Without the Refry

Great flavor to the beans. As a Mexican we eat a lot of beans. I always wondered how to make them in the slow cooker but never quite got them to turn out right. Thank you for a new way to cook our beans. I no longer have to worry about them burning when I have to leave the house while they are cooking.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

I have now made this bread twice. Each time I have doubled the recipe. Everyone I have served it to has loved it even my friends very picky eaters. We just didn't tell them there was green stuff in it. Apparently they don't look to closely. I did use half whole wheat flour and cut the sugar down to two cups. I also add molasses. I don't measure it I just add what looks right to me. Then I cut the oil down to 1/2c. and add 1c. of applesauce. It turned out really moist and delicious. These changes I make to nearly all of my quick bread recipes.

Simple Marinara Sauce

I've been making this recipe all my life. I've never had a problem with too much salt as. The recipe should say salt to taste instead of giving a specific amount. As for the rest of the ingredients well if you look at the picture the cook apparently likes it that way. I always put only the amount that looks good to me when I make it.This means that it varys from one time to the next.

Strawberry Mousse

I loved the recipe. Having read the other reviews I added extra sugar. I also added a package of of gelatin to help it set up better and prevent weeping. It is still without shape but it does not weep. Next time I will add two packages of gelatin.

Super Moist Pumpkin Bread

Way to sweet. I was looking for a pumpkin bread and got a dense pumpkin cake. After tasting it the people at the party thought it was a cake.They really liked it, but I am not a fan of so much sugar. At least not in my bread. I may try it again since it has no cholesterol but with a lot less sugar.Maybe just half of the recomended amount.
