Crispy Fish

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2014
Wow -- this was great. I am not inclined to fry foods often but I am glad I did with this one. I used fresh ocean perch filets, they were light, crispy and delicious. homemade tartar sauce was the icing on the cake and my husband and daughter GOBBLED this up. I was thinking we would have a lot of leftovers -- not at all. And, I used brown rice flour in addition to the potato flakes to keep it gluten free. Thanks for the great recipe -- I will be making again.

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2013
This is delicious! So simple yet elegant. I used brown rice flour to dredge the chicken - it's gluten free but the added benefit is that it makes the chicken almost silky. Baby Bellas hold up nicely and adding a few sprigs of fresh thyme as the sauce simmers really adds dimension. I'm 100% German but my Italian husband said, are you sure you're not Italian? Definitely a keeper -- thank you, Lisa!!!

Grilled Chicken and Herbs

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2013
Delicious! I needed a recipe that didn't need a long marinating time - I found this and it was awesome! The only changes I made were adding a splash of rice wine vinegar and doubling the garlic because we love it :). I seared it on a super hot grill and with about 5 minutes per side plus 5 minutes to rest, I had juicy, succulent chicken with picture perfect grill marks. I am looking forward to making this again :)

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
Wow. This is amazing. I had about 1/2 of a cooked oven stuffer roaster that I was looking to repurpose. I tried to stay true to the recipe but though I LOVE spicy food, I toned it down a bit for my family by leaving out the jalapeños and just using canned chilis. I always try to sneak more veggies in so when i turned off the stove, i stirred in the zucchini and let it stand covered for about 15 minutes. i need to avoid dairy so i didnt stir the cheese in but rather topped the bowls with Colby jack. as i was making it, i was tasting and thought it was really good. i tasted after adding the cheese and the cheese takes it from great to completely amazing. i will be making this again - CHA CHA CHA!

Tomato and Garlic Pasta

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
Let me start by saying that my husband is Italian and is the designated sauce maker in this house. That said, occasionally, I venture into his territory as I did with this recipe and it is FABULOUS. I first found this when I was planning my New Year's Eve dinner party and wanted a pasta course that was simple and delicious - amazing. Since then, I've made it many times (and it's only March!) and I'm giving it 5 stars even though I haven't even been able to make it with fresh tomatoes yet. The only additions I made were about a teaspoon of dried basil and dried oregano into the oil when the garlic is cooking (the smell is AMAZING.) Considering it is winter, the tomatoes here look pretty paltry and I'm getting rave reviews even with high quality canned (San Marzano work well.) I can't wait to try it with fresh. Anyway, if you are looking for a simple and delicious pasta, where the freshness of the ingredients can shine through, you've found the only recipe you will ever need.

Skillet Ham, Cabbage and Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2010
This was delicious! I think the recipe, as written would have been 4 stars but with the changes was easily 5+. I used unpeeled red potatoes & I let them cook for a bit longer than the recipe indicated, they really thickened the broth. I also added a large sliced carrot with the onion, it brought some nice color to the dish. One thing that I just happened to have that I think really made this amazing was frozen ham broth. I defrosted & added that instead of just water - I had about 3 cups and it was a the thickness of stew. This is a wonderful, hearty meal on a cold night. I had been working outside on the coldest, windiest day of the year and my husband was fighting a cold, this was just what the doctor ordered. Next snow storm this WILL be on the menu - thanks, Priscilla!

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2010
delicious! wonderful old fashioned fluffy pancakes. honestly, pancakes aren't usually on the top of my list but my husband requested some so I wanted to find a great recipe. followed the recipe to a t but as another reviewer suggested, added some cinnamon & vanilla. they were light, fluffy just the right amount of sweetness and overall a 10! There are only 3 of us so I cut the recipe in half and it was still way more than enough. I will be making these again. wow, these are wonderful - thanks for a great recipe.

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2010
I made this today & it was very good. I should say, I am not Irish & I have never had homemade Irish Soda Bread. When I told my husband I was making it, he said, "ugh, why?" because he has never been impressed with Irish Soda Bread. He said, though, that this was very good. Actually, his exact words were, "Not too shabby for a German girl." We had a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner & this was a great compliment to our meal. I baked this in my Grandmother's cast iron skillet & it was very rustic. Really delicious, super easy & I will be making it again. Thanks for a great recipe!

Golden Wedding Punch

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2010
I would give this 10 stars if I could. I made this for my inlaws 40th anniversary party at a BYO restaurant. Considering that I only found the recipe @ 7AM on the morning of the party, I needed something easy. I made this and it turned out FABULOUS! It was delicious and people kept refilling their glasses. I was particular about what I needed because the party began at 1 and I needed something that could be either nonalcoholic or spiked. I made this and offered a spike of champagne - kind of mimosa-ish but not that you can't drink more than 1 or 2. It was delicious - refreshing and sweet, but not too sweet. Also, since I didn't have time to make an ice ring, I added 2 (10 oz ?) bags of sliced frozen strawberries and it was PERFECT!!!!!!!!! Champagne & strawberries in a mimosa!!!! what could have been better! I will make this again & again - thanks for sharing such a fabulous, versatile recipe.

Pretty Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2009
What a fantastic recipe - we loved this. The only change I made was to reduce the oil and the soy sauce by 1/2 because it just seemed like so much marinade. It was beautiful too. Grilled over a hot grill this is absolutely fantastic. I will be making this again and again - thanks for a fabulous recipe.

Caribbean Rum Punch

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2009
Wow - this is fantastic. The only change I made and it is a totally personal preference is cut the simple syrup by 1/2. The bitters and the nutmeg take this from great to out of this world. Just by chance the OJ that I had on hand was Mango OJ and what a delightful addition, mmmmm. Thanks, this is a fantastic recipe that I have already made a few times and will become part of my repertoire.

French Onion Soup V

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
This soup was delicious!!!!! A few slight variations I made were - using beef soup base instead of canned stock and omitting the water. Also, I added the sugar to the onions in the beginning because I find that the carmelization is richer. Instead of all white wine I used 1 part white wine and 1 part sherry. The finishing touch was a dash of worcestershire. My husband ate 3 bowls, 2 w/ cheese, 1 without! Really marvelous, thank you.

Twice-Baked Potatoes Supreme

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
Wow! These potatoes were great. I enjoy twice baked potatoes but I feel like the cheddar/sour cream recipes are predictable. I wanted something lighter so I made these and my family loved them. One change I made was to add grated parmesan to the filling instead of just on top. I didn't add a lot but it was really great. Thanks for a great recipe - I'll be making these again.

Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2009
These cookies were fantastic!!!!!!!!!! Out of the clear blue I had a craving for an old fashioned sugar cookie and I found this recipe. It took no time to make the batter and bake - in less than 1/2 an hour my craving was satisfied. These cookies were soft, chewy and just heavenly. Since we have a few Cinnamon fans in this house, I think that next time I will roll them in a brown sugar cinnamon mix. This recipe is a keeper that I will make again & again. Thanks!

Fabulous Zucchini Grinders

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
What a welcome addition to my zucchini recipe collection - these are awesome. I altered the recipe slightly but only because I happened to have fresh bolognese sauce on hand that I used in place of the marinara. I did sprinkle some parmesan before I added the mozzarella on top. Just delicious. Growing up in PA with authentic grinders, it is tough to replicate them but this one was just like I remembered and with a good dose of home grown produce to boot. Thanks for the great recipe - I'll be making it all summer!

Oatmeal and Wheat Flour Blueberry Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2008
These pancakes were delicious. I just made them for our Sunday breakfast and my 13 month old daughter absolutely loved them -- she kept saying "MMMMMM!" and opening her mouth for more. Like some of the other reviewers, I too used buttermilk. I added about 2 t. each of cinnamon & vanilla extract for some extra flavor. These were excellent & I will definitely make them again. Happy Sunday!
