Crispy Oven-Roasted Rosemary Chicken with Sausage and Potatoes

Kinda bland. Won't make again. Try the "Crispy Rosemary chicken and fries" recipe instead. That is excellent and a staple in my lineup

One Week – Six Dinners – Just $100

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
This is how I plan my meals every week--except that I plan my meals around the grocery store sale flyers. I see what meats and fresh veggies are on sale at the grocery store chains (the sale periods sre usually wed-tues) and plan my meals for each day. I pull up the recipes and write down each ingredient I need that I do not have stocked and shop all the stores in one day. Ingredients that are not on sale that I need I buy at Walmart because they are almost guaranteed the cheapest. Also, I take advantage of all meat sales and BOGOs (Buy one, get one free) by stocking up. We have a deep freezer, so for example, last week I purchased about 15 lbs. ofboneless skinless chicken breasts for 1.49/lb., which I then labeled and deep froze. Also, check sites like Coupon mom and Southern savers for coupon deals. Buy two copies of every Sunday paper, because on BOGOs you can use two coupons! For example, Scichk Quattro razors were BOGO at 6.99, and I used two $2 coupons, making two sets of razors only 2.99, or 1.50 each box. Southern Savers will tell you what's on sale at every grocery, and what dates the coupons came out, so you can stock up accordingly!

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
Much, much better than Brooke's Bombshell brownies. used mini semi-sweet chips, and added the rest of the beg unmelted into the mix. Very good, but still looking for the perfect recipe. This is the front runner for now, however.

Cake Balls

Not bad, but you epect more from sweets. They look good, but the Easy Oreo Truffles require less work, look almost exactly the same, and taste much better.

White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2010
I have made a few cheesecakes from this site, and this was by FAR the best, lapping the others even. Firstly, I use all the tips from this site, including water bath, and then the article on how to mix the ingredients to obtain the perfect consistency. This is important info. USE it. Also, always use the oversize Reynolds heavy Duty aluminum foil when using the H2O bath. Dont skimp unless you like cheescake smoothie. I used seedless rasperry fruit spread and maybe it's denser than than when you actually make the reasperry, because it sunk to the bottom of the cake and it refused to swirl. I did nuke it and drizzle it over the top when I served the cake. best cheesecake I've evermade from this site, hands down.

Slow Cooker Cranberry Roast

Good way to use up cranberry leftovers fr`om Tday. It was okay, not spectacular. I wouldn't go out of my way to make it--it's only a means to use extra cranberry dressing.

Pumpkin Cake II

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2010
Good , moist cake. I'm not sucha fan of pumpkin pie and my boyfriend hates sweet potatoes and is allergic to pecans, so I made this for Thanksgiving. I added a lot more spices--ginger, more cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. I baked it in two round pans and frosted with cream cheese frosting. It's good, but not spectacular enough for a Thanksgiving meal. Ill make it again, but not for Thanksgiving.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2010
Good brownies out of the oven. Very dense and chewy and intensely chocolately, but these brownies harden up overnight. The middle is still very tasty, but the crusts become a sugary, gritty armour. Reheating will soften the exoskeleton a bit.

I used poblano chiles. I added more garlic, some onions, bay leaves, and cumin. It was a little bland, but not bad. Probably won't make it again.

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2010
Not bad. Used fresh garlic (alot) instead of powdered. At the end, I Took out the chicken and the pan juices and placed the potatoes on a baking sheet in oven to crisp them up while I made a gravy with the pan juices. Used Kosher salt. Easy to prepare; tastes good.

Creole Chicken I

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2010
This is delicious and one of the best things I have evr made in a slow cooker. I added 4 slices of bacon, garlic, pickled jalapenos for more spice, celery, and tomato sauce. I sauteed the bacon first and then cooked the garlic in the reserved grease. I also thoroughly seasoned the thighs with Creole seasoning. Terrific.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2010
Hmmm...not great. Won't make it again. tastes nothing like Asian food. Maybe with some Chinese five spice powder. more garlic, ginger, and some red pepper it would taste a little more like Asian food. I'm half-Japanese, and just because you add soy sauce to something and serve it with rice, it doesn't make it Asian. I add soy sauce instead of salt to almost any sauce, and I eat a side of rice almost every day. That doesn't mean it's Asian food I'm eating...

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2009
I think it's funny how some people consider this chili spicy and others don't at all. I barely tasted any spice in this chili and I had to drench it in hot sauce just to eat it because it was frankly quite bland. But then again, I don't consider Tabasco sauce to be spicy. I made it in the slow cooker, I subbed green onions for onions and increased chili powder, garlic, and cumin. It makes a ton. I won't be making this again--I'm still looking for the perfect vegetarian chili recipe...

Velvety Pumpkin Soup With Blue Cheese and Bacon

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2009
I really wanted this to be excellent but it was only mediocre, or as my BF put it-- "it's not bad; it's not good." I actually was constantly vacillating between liking and disliking it. I think the strong molasses flavor overpowered the subtles of pumpkin and broth. Not recommended.

Stuffed Leg of Lamb with Balsamic-Fig-Basil Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
I am a lamb lover; it's by far my favorite meat, I made this meal for Xmas dinner and I was expecting perfection since the recipe sounded absolutely divine and I spent so much money on the ingredients. It was good--but not nearly as delicious as I was expecting. First, I would suggest you double or triple the herb/spice rub. Because it was NOT CLOSE TO ENOUGH. I really think that if I had done this, it might have been a five star. Double the liqueur amount. I subbed black cherry liqueur because I didn't want to buy a bottle of cassis I would never drink. Lastly, the cooking time is off for this recipe. Lamb just shouldnt be cooked more than medium rare, which means removal from the oven at 125-130 F on the thermometer. Check your old cookbooks ladies and gentlemen-- the ones printed before our nation became fearful -- medium rare is 130-135F, and meat always rises 5F internally after removal from the oven! That means 8-9 minutes per pound for lamb. My 5 lb roast was done in 40 min--so check it early!! Also, because it's butterflied, the ends of the lamb cook to well while the middle is medium rare, so you can even please the philistines who prfer well-done meat with this recipe.

Peppermint Bark

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
I used 12 oz bags of Nestle Morsels, so I increased the oil and extract proportionally. I nuked the chips on 50% power, first for 1 min, and then in 30 sec intervals, until I could mix them with a fork. I had no problems with the bark seoarating, and I cut the pieces with a sharp knife warmed in hot water. A big success and very easy...
