About this Cook
I am a Grandmother and Great Grandmother. My kids are spread out around the country so I mostly cook for just my husband and myself. I love to create new receipes and experiment with new healthy ideas in cooking. I put together a cookbook several years ago and published it myself. It has all the old hand-me-down receipes that I have learned and collected over the years. I gave each family member a copy and they all use it often. I retired two years ago so I spend a lot of time cooking and I am currently writing a mystery novel.
My favorite things to cook
I love German and Austrian foods, Italian and Mexican also. I learned most of my cooking skills from my X-mother-in-law. She was Austrian and a marvelous cook. She taught me old world skills that you don't always learn out of a book and it becomes second nature to know what spices to use and what foods blend well together. When we eat out and I have something that I really like I try to recreate it at home. Sometimes successful and sometimes not but I usually come very close.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family traditions would be Holiday cooking and baking. Austrian and German dishes that we love are always prominant at the table.
My cooking triumphs
I would say that my BBQ Sauce is my latest triumph. I'm keeping this one a secret. I would like to sell it commercially someday. It is simply wonderful. I also like to create soup receipes. I have become quite adept at soups since my husband likes to eat soup everyday for lunch. He is French and you know how they love their sauces and soups, plus he is an excellant cook himself.

French Bread Rolls to Die For
Wonderful and easy rolls. Big hit at Sunday Supper. I do believe though that I will add a extra 1/2 teaspoon of salt the next time I make them or use real salt. I try to keep our food low salt as much as possible and used substitute salt and followed the recipe exactly. I will use real salt next time because I think the substitute salt made a difference. Still wonderful though. This is a keeper and so easy. I will use it a lot. Thank you JOCATLIN.

Green Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette
This is one of our favorite salads. Great company salad. We love blue cheese on salads so this was a big hit in our family. We make this once or twice a week. Thank you NancyW.
