Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2011
This recipe ROCKS! I've been craving apple pie ever since I bought an apple crisp scented plug in from Bath & Body Works a couple weeks ago. However, I've never made a fruit-filled pie before. I found this recipe and it did not disappoint! I did change a little after reading some reviews. I sprinkled in cinnamon, nutmeg, a tad of ground cloves and a few drops of vanilla. After cooking the mixture in the stove, I poured most of it over the apples in a bowl to coat before transferring them into my already made, frozen pie crust (remember, this is my first fruit pie, can't go too crazy by making homemade crust just yet). Then I took another thawed out already made pie shell and laid it over the top, pinching the sides and cutting the top to vent. I used what was left of the mixture to brush on top (doesn't take much at all). I baked it at 350 for one hour. And I couldn't wait for it to cool, I ate it hot! Sooooooooo good! Definitely the go to apple pie recipe!

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2011
I used this recipe the first time with balsamic vinegar bc I didn't have any red wine vinegar. It was AWESOME! The next time, I used red wine vinegar and we didn't like it as much. So the 50 times I've made it, I use balsamic bc it gives it a better flavor. Also, I slice the steak up first and put it in a big ziploc bag to marinate. Then I lay the slices out on the counter top George Foreman grill I have and cook them that way. Pair them with sauteed onion & bell pepper, sour cream and cheese and you have PERFECT fajitas! The kid loves them and so does the picky, chef hubby.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
LOVED this soup! My hubby is the chef in our family so when I made this and he really liked it, I knew it was a keeper. I did use chicken broth instead of water, added a little sour cream, added more garlic bc we are garlic junkies, and I thickened it up a little more with more flour because it was too thin. Other than that, it's great! Served it with a little cheese sprinkled on top.

Shrimp Etouffee II

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
This is a great base recipe. I'm giving it 4 stars b/c it needs a little more. I cooked the onion, bell pepper, & celery for a lot longer than the recipe calls For bc I don't like super crunchy veggies in it. I also added Cajun seasoning to the butter/veggie mix while it cooked on the stove (not a fan of cookin in microwave). I also added more garlic bc we love garlic and I added Tabasco for more spice. Thanks for the recipe, it got me started!

Best Ever Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
This recipe is amazing! I'm picky about tuna salad and won't eat just any kind. The first time we made it, the only thing I did different was not add sweet relish (bc I hate it), but added more dill in it's place. The second time I made it (which was the next day bc it was so good we ate it all in 1 day) I did not add tuna. Instead, I added 16 oz of the imitation crab and 2 small packages of salad shrimp. I omitted the sweet relish again and doubled the dill relish. I also added a dash of Celery salt. I have looked high & low for a good seafood salad recipe and this was perfect as tuna or seafood! Thanks for sharing, we love it!!!

Frog Eye Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
I gave this 3 stars b/c the flavor was great. It was the texture that was disgusting. The pasta ruins the recipe & I wonder if omitting it would leave an awesome fruit salad. I know it's supposed to be "frog eyes", but the pasta was bland & did nothing but take away from the great taste of the salad. I definitely recommend NOT substituting vanilla pudding for the cook portion of this recipe, b/c it is awesome! Maybe next time, I will make it without the nasty pasta (and I'm a pasta lover!) b/c like I said, the flavor was great.

Sweet Sausage Rolls

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
These were GREAT!!! The only change I made was that I didn't have any nuts. But it didn't matter, they were delicious! Everyone at the baby shower I hosted loved them & asked for the recipe. I rolled them & put them in the pan, then drizzled the topping over them before I baked them. Excellent finger food & easy to make!!

Egg Salad Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
Great recipe, I followed the recipe at first & it was good, however I thought it needed a little more kick, so I added some extra salt & some extra dill. I took these to a baby shower & they were devoured. Great recipe!!

Luscious Slush Punch

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
This is the best punch I have ever had! It is SUPERB!!! The only change I made, was that I had to substitute the lemon juice for lime juice b/c I was out of lemon. Either way, it was awesome! I made it for a baby shower & 12 ladies knocked off 2 punch bowls full! Everyone wanted the recipe! Try it!!!

Incredible Punch

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2008
I made this punch for a baby shower & it was AWESOME!!! I did have to make a small change & that was substituting the lemon juice for lime juice because I was out of lemon. Either way it was superb & EVERYONE wanted the recipe, even my mom & she is not a punch/kool-aid sort of fan.
