About this Cook
I loved being in the kitchen helping my mom, who is a wonderful cook, at a very young age. I was always willing to help her bake or make dinner. She taught me to cook the way she knew how, mostly homestyle and very rarely following a recipe or exact measurements. My dad also prepared many tasty meals for us. In his younger days he was a short order chef and he also has a passion for trying more exotic and gourmet type foods. So between my parents, my brothers and I both know how to cook well.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making anything from a homemade pot of chicken and dumplings to shrimp scampi and broiled filet. I especially love making restaurant quality foods instead of going out. (I never go out for steak, I like my own so much better) I am known for my homemade pizza. My husband says he married me for my pizza making skills, lol. I admit, I love it too. I don't care for any chain pizza, and even local pizzarias don't compare if I say so myself. :) Italian foods and appetizers are also favorites of mine to prepare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Dad's fried chicken Mom's spaghetti sauce Mom's homemade bread and pepperoni rolls and of course Friday night pizza and stromboli night!

I love how everyone raves about my cooking, especially my pizza and stromboli.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I attempted an angel food cake, it ended up all over the oven!

Slow Cooker Carrot Cake Steel Cut Oats
I really wanted to like this, but just didn't. I followed the recipe, aside from cutting it down by size. I felt the cinnamon was overpowering and bitter. I finely grated my carrots and they were still "carrots" and a bit hard. I cooked this on low for almost 8 hours. It could just be me, but I didn't care for it.

Cashew Chicken with Water Chestnuts
I used MUCH less sesame oil (maybe 2 tsp. total) and omited all the veggies to make it like the cashew chicken at my fave place, so basically just chicken, cashews and water chestnuts. It was fabulous!
