Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
Oh my God! Best rice pudding recipe ever!!!!! I just made it not thinking anything of it, I was a bit worried about my rice actually because I'm using a gas range and I'm not used to making rice like that. Anyway, it came out awesome!!!! I didn't use vanilla or cinnamon or nutmeg this time because I didn't have any and I used light brown sugar instead of white and only used a tiny bit. Anyway, it came out perfect, thank you so much for this recipe!

Fresh Fig Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2009
Good, tasty recipe. I used dried figs ( I don't think it's possible to get fresh ones where I live!) and since they were dried, I had to add a little liquid to get the right consistency to form cookie balls. I like cookies shaped like balls and then watching them flatten out in the pan while they're baking. Though these didn't flatten out so much, perhaps because I used margarine instead of shortening(that's all I had on hand) and I didn't use a whole lot of that. Also, I halved the sugar and used brown instead of white, like I always do. I didn't find these cookies to be bland at all, like what other users said. They were good! :) Thanks.

Syrian Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2009
Great recipe! I used whole wheat flour instead of white and I don't have a bread machine so I just made it by hand and even though my fire alarm went off for the first batch, they still tasted great! I love how they puff up and you can cut them in half and stuff them with whatever you like! I like tuna with hot pepper, so good!

Creamy Apple Pie

I made this pie once last year and I gave it to a co-worker as a goodbye gift. I didn't try any of it but she said it was awesome. I hope she didn't lie! hehe I do know it looked and smelled great though.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2008
Really good and easy recipe and yes, it's a bit sweet for my tasting and I didn't even use the full amount of sugar and only used brown sugar (though I guess that's probably just as sweet or sweeter!). Still good though. Added more spices too. and upped the amount of apples.

French Herb Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
This bread is good! The herbs are good too! Smells like my mom's dressing she makes for turkey dinner during the holidays! I added more parsley and some sage as well as savoury. I think I should have left it in the oven for a tad bit longer too because when I cut it down the centre, it was a bit gooey. With banana bread, I'm ok with it because for some reason, it gets better the next day but I'm not so sure about this bread. I've let it sit for a few hours now and the sides came out perfect but the middle is still a bit gooey. I have no real solution for this, however, so that I don't have to throw those bits out, I'm freezing the bread in slices and then when I want to have a couple of pieces for our supper, I'll bake them again as toast, kind of like deluxe garlic bread with no cheese (mm, though cheese sounds good with this!)see how that goes! I was scared to leave it in the oven for much longer, it was turning pretty dark. Though that way be because I used whole wheat flour instead of white. Anyway, I tried a normal piece and it was great! I surprised myself because I don't usually go outside of baking regular loaf bread and do this kind of fancy bread. I've been known to have some disasters! hehe

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
Nice recipe and the bars came out lovely from the pan. I cut back A LOT on the sweetness (no brown sugar and instead of honey I used a bit of maple syrup) and they came out not too sweet but good all the same. I also added more spices because I always add more spices in everything anyway. hehe. Oh yeah, and added finely shredded carrot to make it more healthy and it tastes good. Thanks for the recipe. I know I changed it quite a bit but I had a huge bag of carrots I didn't want to waste so I added them. I'm sure if I followed it to a 't', they would have come out really good as well.

Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
I'm still in the process of cooking this one and I can already tell that it's going to taste really good!!!! I also followed what other reviewers suggested and that's to decrease the amount of sugar. I think I only used a couple of teaspoons of brown sugar. I also upped the amount of vinegar and added a little cayenne because I love spicy food. I may add some more spices to this but I'm not sure yet. I used chopped up pork sausages for this instead of ground beef. I wanted a change. This soup looks quite tasty and smells terrific! It's finished and we just tried it and it's just awesome!!!!!! This is the best soup I've ever made. Thank you for this great recipe!!

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
This is a great simple recipe for those who don't have much time to make it a 'deluxe' crust. I alternate using this recipe along with 2 others when I make my bread/doughs. I don't know if I've quite found my personal favourite recipe for pizza dough yet, this may be close, though I haven't used this recipe in a while. I know I let this one sit overnight once and it was PERFECT after I baked it, just like in a restaurant. I haven't been able to replicate it since though for some reason...
