Honey Ginger Carrots

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
Yummy! I followed the recipe as is, except for the ginger: added about a Tbsp of fresh minced ginger - will do the same next time.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
Be sure you grease the pan VERY well! The top of my cake got stuck in the bundt, so the end result didn't look very pretty. I made this together with the Dark Chocolate Cake II from this site and my guests didn't like this one as much as they liked the other one. It is very easy to make, however, and I would definitely consider baking it for informal parties.

Dark Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
I don't eat chocolate and I haven never made a cake before but my chocolaholic boyfriend's b-day is coming up and I secretly invited a bunch of my girlfriends over for chocolate cake tasting. I made the "Too much chocolate cake" from this site and "Dark Chocolate Cake II". This one was an absolute winner!! They all raved about it! I replaced milk and vinegar with buttermilk and regular flower with cake flower as per other reviewers' suggestion. I used two 9" cake pans because I didn't want to cut it horizontally to add the frosting. I baked it for 30 minutes, let it cool for about an hour, covered both layers with "German Chocolate Cake Frosting II" and put them together. Now, I didn't even try it but apparently it was DELICIOUS, so I am making this for the b-day party! Thank you for a great and easy recipe!

Mandarin Almond Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
It's a great salad and so easy to make. I will always keep a can of mandarin oranges in my kitchen so that I can make this any time!

Homemade Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
Wow! This was pretty amazing! I used my KitchenAid Mixer on speed 10 and, then, strained the butter through a cheese cloth. Didn't wash it under cold water and it was still great. I mixed it with some fresh tarragon, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice - yummy! Won't be buying much store-made butter anymore!

Cinnamon Carrot Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2008
Tasty! We ate it with maple whipped cream cheese for breakfast. I think I will add more carrots next time but, otherwise, the recipe doesn't need any change. It didn't take the whole hour to bake.

Dee's Health Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2008
Like some other reviewers, I didn't do all the rising stages. Mixed all the ingredients with my KitchenAid Mixer, let rise for an hour, punched down and let rise another 30 minutes. Came out very nice! Next time, I might let it rise for longer the second time (to see if it the bread gets fluffier). Also, if you scale the recipe down to 24, it makes a 9X5 bread loaf.

Potato, Broccoli and Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2008
It was just ok for me, tasted a bit like liquid mashed potatoes with cheese. Next time, I will try to use a recipe that calls for more broccoli.

Eggplant Supper Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2008
Very good! It tastes a bit like the Bolognese sauce but is much easier and faster to make and not as heavy :) The only thing is that you can't really taste the eggplant, which made me wonder if it would make any difference if I didn't use it at all. Will definitely make it again.

Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: May 14, 2008
This is a good salad and I will make it again but I will cut down on sugar next time: a whole 1/2 cup made it way too sweet and I had to buy more broccoli to add to the salad.

Russian Black Bread

Reviewed: May 14, 2008
Of course, this is not exactly the same bread as the one I used eat as a child in Moscow but it is definitely VERY tasty! I also made it without a bread machine: mixed all the ingredients with a KitchenAid, let it rise for an hour, punched it down, and let it rise for 40 more minutes. I tried it both with and without onion powder (another reviewer's suggestion) and I prefer it without: makes it taste more 'authentic'. Will definitely keep on making this bread - it's great for sandwiches and gifts! (I sent a loaf to my mother-in-law as a b-day present).

Gary's Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: May 14, 2008
These were just ok. What we didn't like about them was the stuffing - it made the mushrooms taste like pre-prepared food. I guess it's the amount of salt and preservatives they put in these things. Maybe a better brand would have made this better but I think next time, I will opt for a recipe with all 'natural' ingredients.

Apple Breakfast Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2008
This is a great breakfast alternative and really easy to make! I followed the other reviewers' suggestions and shredded the apples, added 2/3 cups dried cherries, used 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup of white, and added 2 Tsp vegetable oil for moisture. I also added some ground ginger ad nutmeg but in the end, couldn't taste them, so next time, I'll add a little more. Will definitely make it again!

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2008
A party hit! I used oven toasted pine nuts instead of almonds and craisins, and I added blue cheese. I also found the dressing a bit too sweet for my taste and ended up adding more vinegar and oil to "water it down". Next time, I will add less sugar, probably only half of what the recipe calls for. We all LOVED the end result.

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2008
I have only tried making bread once before, so it took me 2 attempts to get these rolls to be the way I liked them. The first time, I added all 4 cups of bread flower and mixed it by hand. The dough was VERY sticky and it was hard to knead it and to make it into balls. I also found the rolls to be a little too dry in the end. The second time I tried this recipe, I only added about 3 1/2 cups of flower, as other reviewers had suggested and I used a mixer. I also put a plate with a bit of vegetable oil and constantly oiled my hands while making the balls. This made a huge difference! The whole process was much easier the second time around and the end result was much better! With a little less flower, these rolls are just perfect! I served them with soup to a bunch of friends and all they could talk about was the bread! This is a keeper!

Banana-Berry Brownie Pizza

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2008
My guests loved this dessert and it was very easy to make! The only thing is that it got really stuck to the pizza pan, although I oiled and flowered it, as the recipe indicates. So, we spent a great deal of time trying to cut it and get it off the pan. I think next time, I will make it in a large glass dish.

Amy's Cilantro Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2008
Great recipe and VERY easy to make (use the food processor, NOT the blender!). I made this for a party and served with pita bread. I could only find Medium Salsa Verde, so the dip was a little too spicy for my personal taste but everyone else loved it! I used a little over half a cup of cilantro and didn't find it overpowering at all, as other reviewers had. Will definitely make again!
