About this Cook
Married with three grown children and four grandchildren. Retired
My favorite things to cook
Appetizers. I'm always on the lookout for new recipes. Also like to prepare vegetable dishes. Especially, whatever is in season at the time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On holidays, when my family can all get together, we always have cheesy hash brown casserole. For at least 30 years this has been a family tradition. Also, as we are opening Christmas gifts, salami cheese balls are a family favorite.
My cooking triumphs
For all of the family birthday parties everyone wants me to bring my noodles with chicken that I put in the crock pot to keep warm. They disappear so fast that I usually make a double batch because they all want leftovers to take home.
My cooking tragedies
I was ready to give up after "two" failed attempts at making a pumpkin roll for the holidays. It kept sticking to the jelly roll pan when I tried to remove it even though I had greased and floured the pan. On my "third" attempt I put parchment paper in the jelly roll pan and yippee!!!!!! it didn't stick and came out beautifully. Lesson learned!

Butter-Roasted Cauliflower
Absolutely delicious. Followed the recipe exactly except for the glaze. I substituted the white sugar with confectioners sugar. I took the bread out of the oven after 50 minutes and brushed the glaze on. Put it back in for 10 more minutes. It was done so I removed it and sat it on a cooling rack. After 10 minutes I glazed it again. I had never used a glaze before (always a frosting) so I was afraid when I saw how runny it was. But, after it cooled it had a beautiful glaze to it and almost a tad crunchy. Be sure to cover it and refrigerate it. It tasted more delicious and flavorful after it was cold.

Pork Steaks
I just made this for dinner and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. I dredged in flour as others recommended. I didn't have green onion so used half of a sweet onion. The left over sauce was delicious on mashed potatoes. I can't imagine using 6 pork steaks for this. I only used two large pork steaks and we needed all of the sauce because it cooks down. Very delicious and will definitely make again.

Simple Beef Pot Roast
Delicious! This was amazing! Just made it this evening. Followed the recipe but doubled the veggies and butter because we wanted left overs to make in a soup tomorrow. We still can't believe how good the diced up vegetables with their juices tasted over the potatoes. My husband always has to have gravy but he said this was absolutely delicious. I even stirred some horseradish into my potatoes like Chef John did. Never did that before but we loved that too. Thank you Chef John for an unforgettable recipe that I am anxious to serve to guests.
