Crusty French Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2008
I've always wanted to make bread by hand, but never seemed to have yeast and enough flour in my cupboards at the same time. This bread turned out perfectly! I was so proud of myself! No complaints at all about density, crust, rising issues, etc. I followed the recipe exactly (except the cornmeal... I didn't have any)and it turned out perfectly. Can't wait to steam some mussels and bake up a batch of this bread again.

Bean Soup With Kale

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
Absolutely wonderful soup! I used fresh chicken stock though and rather than lug out the food processor, I simply mashed the canned beans with a potato masher (sure saves on clean-up). Will keep this recipe for another time! YUM!

Maple Salmon

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2008
Good, but the sugar from the syrup made the sauce burn. I should've kept a closer eye on this one as it cooked. My fault I think. I may try it again one day.

Pork Chops Stuffed with Smoked Gouda and Bacon

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2008
Made this for Father's Day using two pork tenderloins instead and oven baked after browning them in the bacon fat. FANTASTIC recipe. I passed it along to my son's teacher along with some other favourite recipes as a Thank You for the end of the year.

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2008
Is there room for another glowing review here? The only thing I did differently for this recipe was mix some flour, margarine, brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkled it on top before baking. It came out with a wonderful coffee cake style "crisp" to it. I simply googled crisp recipes and found a simple one. LOVE THIS ONE!!

Moist, Tender Spice Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2008
I made a rich caramel sauce to spoon over this and the final product is absolutely wonderful!!! The only thing missings is a really good quality french vanilla ice cream and a rich cup of freshly brewed coffee. I added a cup of raisins that I had soaked in hot water and I also followed a more traditional cake technique of creaming the sugar with the butter (or margarine... which I used), and then adding the eggs and vanilla. I added the combined dry ingredients to the sugar/margarine, and then stirred in my milk and raisins. Absolutely perfect!! A definite keeper of a recipe and one well worth serving to guests.
