I've been a working mom to three really cool daughters and the wife of the sweetest man ever. I have always looked forward to rushing home at the end of the day to whip up a brand new recipe or try whatever I've had slow cooking. I'm almost an empty nester so I'm always looking for things to lure the two that have gone back to my kitchen. Obviously I love my family and love get togethers with lots of good, nutritional meals.
My favorite things to cook
Main meals and salads are the items that I spend the most time looking for new ideas on. I like anything that is colorful making up a plate that looks irresistable and is just as pleasant to the taste. Although we try to avoid a lot of sweets, an occasional Tiramisu or Yum-Yum cake are always fun.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My daughters can tell when it is time to start bottling our homemade salsa's from produce from our vegetable garden. They say they can almost smell it as the season approaches. Although they have said that it is a lot of work and have threatened to not do it again, when the time rolls around, they're ready. All of the holidays are special with each of us presenting something yummy and fun but Thanksgiving at my home is a very big deal with all kinds of new foods to try. But one thing the family will not let me replace is the traditional stuffing.
My cooking triumphs
Judging from my families comments, I have been fairly successful in most everything that I cook however, I will triumph when I can finally master the true art of perfect pie crust.
My cooking tragedies
I attempted to cook a turkey for my entire family and friends on a rotisserie. I thought I had prepared it perfectly and followed the directions precisely but it would just not get done. It was a beautiful bird on the outside, golden and crisp. I have learned not to take chances like that when so many hungry people are relying on you.
