Mayonnaise Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
These were surprising very good. When I first read the recipe I though, yuck, mayonnaise?? In a biscuit?? But you cannot taste the mayonnaise and it renders a tasty, light biscuit. Followed the recipe exactly with no modifications.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2005
These were soooooo good, folks. You gotta try 'em. I didn't melt the butter either, used soft butter and mixed it with the sugar like usual. Soft chewy luscious texture. They took 16 minutes to bake in my oven. Cookies never last long in my house, but these went especially fast. I only got one! Makes me want to make another batch... hmmmmm.....

Pecan Crescents

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2005
I made these for Christmas. They were easy and tasty. I rolled them into little balls instead of making crescents. I will definitely make them again.

No Fail Pound Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2005
Oh no!! My no fail pound cake failed! It fell and I am a pretty darn good cook. Can't figure out what I did wrong. Oh well, win some lose some, but I won't be making this again.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2005
I have made this recipe twice. The first time, the cookies spread out too much even though I chilled the dough like the recipe said. This last time, I used extra flour as one reviewer suggested - 1/4 cup or so, chilled it two hours. They came out much much better! My husband loves the taste of these cookies and they are really pretty if you take the time to frost them. I am going to perfect these and add them to my Christmas cookie collection. Great recipe! Thanks!

Pecan Sour Cream Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2005
Mmmmmm. I just had a piece. It is moist, delicate, delicious. I think being as the topping is sugary, you should cut down the sugar in the recipe to 2-1/2 cups. I did and I think the sweetness is just right. I'm going back for seconds... 0

Best Lemonade Ever

Reviewed: May 24, 2005
I liked it too. I did not have time to wait for the hot syrup to cool so I heated up only 2 cups of water and added the sugar. Heated it until the sugar dissolved, didn't quite come to a boil. Then I poured it in the pitcher and added cold water to fill it about 3/4 way and filled the rest up with ice cubes. Put it in the fridge and it was nice and cold in an hour.

Caldo De Res (Beef Soup)

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2005
I put everything in a crockpot and let it cook all day on low and it was delicious. No beef shanks at the market that day, but I used an inexpensive piece of beef with a bone in it (I think it was a beef chuck roast). I thought it important to use a piece of beef with a bone in it, and I really do think it enriched the broth. It was GOOD!!

Congo Bars I

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2004
I made these on a camping trip and they were so good I had to make another batch the day we got back. We had them warm with vanilla ice cream. Yummy! These are destined to become a camping menu staple for us as they are easy to make, camp cook friendly (i.e., you can substitute butter or part butter for the shortening, try different chips and nuts, etc.), and they bake up fine in the irregular heat you sometimes get in a camping oven. Thanks for the recipe!

Chocolate Rum Balls I

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2002
Waaaaaaah! I did something wrong I guess. They just did not come out good at all. Doughy and strong tasting. Mebbe I just don't like rum balls, I dunno.

Great Grandma's Nut Butter Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2002
The batter is too loose and my cookies spread too much and came out more like nut butter mounds instead of balls. If I make these again, I will add more flour, at least 1/2 cup more and chill the batter.

Chocolate Cappuccino Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2002
The flavor of this cheesecake was delicious, however, I don't know what I did wrong but it was a little too soft and didn't slice easily. I baked it a litle longer because it just didn't seem to want to set up right. Then I thought chilling it might firm it up, but it never did get quite firm enough. I will try it again because the flavor is so good.

This is a terrific recipe. I made 1/3 more frosting than in the recipe and I think it was just enough. I will definitely make it again.

Rum and Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2002
Delicious; I think I used too many pecans though. I will definitely make this again next Thanksgiving but I will cut back on the pecans some. The rum really adds something special to the potatoes.

Fried Rice I

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2002
Good basic recipe. Great way to use up leftover meat and vegetables of any kind. I use 2 eggs and season them with a little soy sauce instead of salt & pepper. I only use 3 strips bacon, diced and cooked until they are just brown not too crispy. I add a large clove of GARLIC pressed or minced to the fat and cook it a few seconds just before adding the rice. I add frozen baby shrimp or any kind of leftover meat I have, like diced chicken, leftover barbecued meats, pot roast, ham, I have even used leftover cheeseburger patties crumbled up (my kids loved this). Careful not to put in too much soy sauce.

Easy Chocolate Chip Pound Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2002
Delicious. I didn't have yellow cake mix so I used chocolate cake mix. Used vanilla pudding mix (the larger size) and only 1/4 cup of white sugar. Sprinkled about 1/2 cup chopped pecans on the bottom of the bundt pan before baking.
