Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2013
Very tasty - I omitted the corn and tomatoes, but otherwise it's a very easy recipe.

Sausage Barley Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2013
Flavor is not bad - I followed the recipe exactly (but not in the slow cooker) and was going to add spinach at the very end, but it turned out i was out, so had to add frozen green beans. Soup is still delicious :)

I used half margarine/half shortening, used less sugar (and fewer spices), and omitted the raisins. Great recipe.

Used 2/3 cup white & brown sugars each, making it a 1&1/3 cups sugar. Delicious recipe!

Mississippi Tea Cakes

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2013
Made these with about 2/3 cup craisins - Delicious little soft cookies - simple and tasty. One warning, though - space these cookies with plenty of space on the cookie sheet - this cookie dough is almost a batter - and it spreads a lot. The only reason I took off 1 star is because these cookies were a bit sweet for me. The very simpleness of the recipe makes the shorcoming apparent - and also makes the sweetness almost unbearable. I'd go with 3/4 cups sugar next time.

Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2013
I added a pinch of chili powder and 1 more can of corn, as recommended by the reviewers. I wish I had only used the suggested 1, however, because sweetness was the dominant taste of the chowder, followed only later by the saltiness and spiciness.

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2013
Wonderful Recipe! I followed it almost exactly (decreased the white sugar a bit and used butter instead of margarine since I was out of margarine). The cookies turned out soft and tender and delicious.

Spicy Pear Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2013
I didn't use nearly as much cinnamon or ginger (didn't really want SPICY cookies), but 1/2 teaspoon of each gave me delicious, slightly spiced pear cookies. I used a bosc pear, which is important in preserving the texture of the cookies (bosc pears are not watery and don't leak moisture when baking). Oh, and I think the frosting is superfluous since these cookies are VERY sweet (and I even cut 1/4 cup of the sugar).

Maybe this is just me (because we didn't grow up with broccoli cheese soup), but this was so rich that it was almost like eating a dip.

Bubba's Jambalaya

Really really good jambalaya - I followed the recipe exactly (mushy texture doesn't bother us) and used a cajun seasoning from this site.

Murgh Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2013
I used this recipe mainly as a reference for the spices. I made it with lamb sprinkled with all the salt, garam masala, and tandoori masala - when the lamb was browned and all liquid evaporated, I added the ground ginger, onion, and garlic, and cooked for about 10 minutes. Then I added crushed tomatoes and cooked for about 45 minutes, until lamb was tender, then stirred in the cream. Really really good. Oh, and depending on the spiciness of your tandoori masala, the chili powder may not be necessary.

10 Pound Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
For a DULCE DE LECHE flavor, either boil the two cans of sweetened condensed milk (fully submerged by at least 3 inches of water) for about 2.5-3 hours, or buy already prepared dulce de leche, and proceed with the recipe as written (without cherry pie filling). DELICIOUS. And still works the same as uncooked sweetened condensed milk.

Shrimp and Mushroom Linguini with Creamy Cheese Herb Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2012
excellent excellent recipe! I would never have thought that shrimp and mushrooms were such a winning combination, but it worked! And the dried basil with the fresh parsley complemented the sauce incredibly. However, since I didn't want to shell out 500 cals just for a stick of butter, I changed the recipe as follows: Brown the mushrooms in 2T butter, then add garlic and basil and saute for 1minute, then add the cream cheese and melt. In a separate bowl, mix 1.5 cups milk with 2tsp cornstarch and add to the mushroom mixture, stirring until the sauce thickens. Add the shrimp and cook for 1 minute, or until warms through, then add the parsley and turn off heat. Salt and pepper if necessary.

Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins II

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2012
These are wonderful, light, fluffy, and delicious muffins with the following changes! 1) use 1and1/4 cup buttermilk or kefir instead of milk and lemon yogurt, 2) increase sugar to 1/2 cup to compensate for less sugar in buttermilk, 3) increase baking soda to 3/4 tsp and decrease baking powder to 1tsp, 4) most times i omit the glaze, and these make a great morning muffin, not just a dessert
