Greetings from the Great State of Ohio!  It’s time to mark your calendar and make your plans for the 4th Annual Buckeye Bash, which we hope will be one of the best allrecipes get-togethers ever!  At little history about our Bashes:  our first meeting was a luncheon at the Dutch Kitchen near Plain City in 2010, then in 2011 we had a swell reunion at Saveur’s and last year it was a super party at bellepeppers’s.  So here’s the scoop for the upcoming event:

What:  The 4th Annual Buckeye Bash

hosted  by  mr. & mrs. midwestchef

When:  June 15th, 2013 @ 12 noon

Where:   Cobblestone @ the Preserve, New Albany, OH 43054
Who:  Friends from allrecipes and their significant others

Why:  Because it’s fun to get to know our online buddies!

Currently, the plans are to have the main portion of the luncheon catered.  Then all you great cooks who attend can bring an appetizer or a dessert to share, if you’d like.  The cost of the luncheon will be $12 including beverages, which is due when you send in your reservation!

If you have never been to an allrecipes get-together, this would be a great time to start your new adventure!  Ohio is home to many great cooks and is centrally located in the Midwest which makes it convenient for friends from many states to be here in one day or less.

If you would like more information about places to stay or have other questions, please email me:  phoebeburns@yahoo.com  Be sure to put "Buckeye Bash" in the subject line.

I look forward to seeing old friends meeting new ones; hope we can make this the biggest and best "Bash" ever!

I can't make it this year - but I know I'll be missing a super great time. And, for anyone who's never been to a round-up or bash - there are NO axe murderers in attendance! LOL I didn't know what to expect last year at Bellepeppers and I told everyone I wasn't sure what/who I would meet or if any axe murderers would show up. Pleased to say that everyone was super nice and I had a blast. Really wishing I could make this year's bash....

Somewhere along the line the Ohio and Missouri get togethers need to be spaced a little farther apart. Hard on the wallet and the vacation schedule at work. Plus, my husband might think I was trying to avoid him, lol. I'd love for Cat to get her sour puss butt to my house and we could pick up Thelma...I mean Lady Sparkle on the way through.

I apologize for taking so long to get this blog up, although I did announce the date back in January. Next year we will try to do better with scheduling - for everyone's sake! I'd love to go the the one Cat Hill is hosting, too.

About Me
Married w/ pets + three kids and six grandkids. Retired after 30 years of teaching grades K-7. Moved to NM 10 years ago. Loved it there. Moved back to Ohio to be closer to family.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make soups. Chili, beef vegetable, ham and bean, and tortilla soups are our favs. I like casseroles - one dish dinners are the best! I think the slow cooker is about the best cooking aid in my kitchen. I love to try new recipes, that's what makes this a super website; that and all the cool contributors.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Anything I did with my grandmother! Thanksgiving at Grandma's house was the best. She wanted to do it all - and she was a great cook. Making taffy with her was such a treat! I remember the first time she made pizza (from a box). She wasn't too sure about pizza! But in the mid 1950's, none of us midwesterners were too sure about pizza!
My cooking triumphs
When I was 13, I entered seven different baked goods (mostly cakes) in open class at the fair, competing against adult cooks with great records. I took first place with all but one entry, which got a second place ribbon.
My cooking tragedies
Looking back over the years, my biggest tragedy was making gravy...but thanks to CindyLepp, it is no longer a challenge! She sent me packets of dry gravy mixes!
