I am just starting to take cooking more seriously. My husband and I love to eat out but recently decided that we should spend our money more wisely, which has led me to work to expand my repertoire of dishes. I incorporate at least 2-3 new allrecipes.com recipes each week and have gradually been expanding my menu. Now we don't have to expect hot dogs or tacos for a home cooked meal. It's turning out to be more enjoyable than I expected!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook have always been appetizers. Even before I started taking the time to prepare my dinner menus and focus on cooking at home more often, I always loved cooking appetizers. That was what I cooked most of the time - now I have to cook dinner most of the time...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year for Christmas or Thanksgiving my mom would make a standing rib and Yorkshire pudding. My dad's family was from England and my mom learned how to make it from them. It's been a wonderful tradition ever since. It reminds me of warm happy times.
My cooking triumphs
My most popular dish is a recipe I got years ago from allrecipes.com. It is a hot spinach and artichoke dish. I recently reviewed it - check it out. Every time I take it somewhere, it is a huge hit! A more recent triumph was trying the Boilermaker Chili recipe. I didn't win the chili cookoff, but mine was the only one completely eaten and I got a lot of positive response - the ones that did well were bland!
My cooking tragedies
Oh so many...part of the reason I stuck with hot dogs and tacos for so long. Now I have more confidence to try new things!
