Viennese Crescent Holiday Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2008
these are a favorite in my house during the holidays. i did use almonds because that's what i had on hand. i also omitted the vanilla sugar. i dipped them in melted dark chocolate as in the picture - they turned out perfect!

Caramel Shortbread Squares

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2008
it was something lovely and different to add to my christmas baked goods. i took other reviewers' advice and poked my shortbread with a chopstick before baking. then i cooled it in the freezer while i made the caramel. i even overcooked the caramel slightly and they still tasted fantastic. i should have mixed the chocolate with half and half because they were really hard to cut without squishing the caramel out the sides. when i make these again i'll be sure to use half and half, and cut them when the chocolate is still a bit soft. even when they don't look as pretty as the picture, they taste FANTASTIC!!

Brownie Biscotti

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2008
biscotti is hard, and this one walks you through the process quite well. i omitted the nuts and drizzled with melted white chocolate like in the picture. everyone enjoyed them. i didn't quite dry them out enough because they had a softer texture than what i expect from biscotti, and only a few of them crumbled. if you let them cool a bit and use a sharp santoku knife, you get nice even cuts because of the straight edge of the knife. i think serrated knives increase the tendency to crumble

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2008
best snickerdoodle recipe ever - everyone said to MAKE SURE i keep it in my file. i used all butter, and they turned out divine. crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside.

Heavenly Angel Food Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
The BEST angel food cake EVER!! I followed the recipe exactly, even though I'm not a fan of almond and was hesitant to put it in. I baked it in heart-shaped muffin tins so the baking time was a little less, but they came out beautifully!! I never knew something so guilt-free could taste so decadent!! I will DEFINITELY be making this one again and again and again.

B.L.T. Salad with Basil Mayo Dressing

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2008
YUM! a new staple in our house. my BF LOVES this salad! I did tweak it a bit. I used sourdough bread for the croutons and drizzled them with olive oil instead of canola. I stuck them in a 400 degree oven for about 10 minutes until browned. I also used reduced-sodium bacon and low-fat mayo in an attempt to reduce the fat content. Otherwise - AWESOME!!!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
I did tweak the recipe a bit due to other reviews by using 1/4c white and 1/4c brown sugar, and added fresh chopped ginger in addition to the ground. I was amazed at how wonderful the sauce was!!! I cooked only 6 chicken thighs and the sauce was just enough! I didn't use it all so I had extra to pour over the top just before serving. Wonderful recipe!! Thank you! I'm looking forward to trying it with beef and salmon!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
these were very good straight from the oven, but as they sat they gained a sort of grainy texture and they weren't as chocolatey as what i would have liked.. but i'm looking for something that tastes like a boxed brownie. all i can say is that they were good, easy to make (the batter will be very thick) and people seemed to like them in general. heat them up before eating!!
