I have a very extensive recipe collection that is unavailable to me,it being in storage. I had a catering enterprise for 5 years, then I moved and the area was not big enough to support ladies from churches and me as a professional, so I started a ceramic studio!
My favorite things to cook
I am expanding my favorites, courtesy of my daughter in college. Hawaiian is big on the list right now. I've been experimenting with Thai, peanut sauce is wonderful with chicken AND vegetarian dishes. I like the ease of crock pot cooking and steaming/stir-fry. I enjoy baking bread and would like to try more bread recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every holiday, my dad requests my deviled eggs, salmon-cheese ball and cucumber cheese ring or Christmas cranberry salad. I always get to make the gravy for these dinners since I know the secret of mixing in the flour without resulting lumps! When my daughter was young she learned the "Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat" song and requested goose for Christmas dinner. It's rather hard to cook 2-3 geese to feed a group of 12 since they are so not meaty like a turkey. Lamb on Easter is a very definite main course with mint jelly, cucumber-cheese ring and sweet potato casserloe (without marshmallows)
My cooking triumphs
When I had my catering business, I developed my Pocket Bites, and Hot Pocket Bites. Both recipes have always been wonderfully praised at buffets, parties. My wedding cakes have been praised for moistness as well as decoration with emphasis on the fillings I offer.
One year I stepped in for another caterer at Christmas preparing and presenting 3 Christmas parties and not changing the menus. Very nice feeling.
My cooking tragedies
The one tragedy that comes to mind wasn't a disaster, just not a pleased client with the presentation of a cake, using her fresh flowers as the center piece.
