Quick Chocolate Chip Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
This is a very dense, moist, and chewy cake that almost has the consistency of a brownie. It's delicious! Does need an additional 5-10 minutes to fully bake.

Mary Oppenhiemer's Butter Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2010
This cake had a great texture-- fluffy but still firm and moist-- but it had very little flavor. It would be bland if it weren't for the caramel glaze. I think it would be a good cake for decorating, but don't be deceived by the butter title--was not rich and butter at all.

Parmesan Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2010
This created a great pork chop with nice coating texture and juicy meat, but it lacked some in the flavor department. The lemon zest definitely made the recipe, but it needs some garlic or herbs to make it truly good.

Florentine Curried Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2010
Pretty good if you like curry and spinach. I had no Monterey Jack so I used Swiss instead, which turned out fine. I used curry paste instead of powder, which is stronger so I used less. Paprika really not necessary. I didn't drain the spinach which gave the sauce a thinner texture and served it with the chicken over Basmati. Sauce tastes like a mildly spicy spinach dip. Yum!

Beer and Maple Lentil Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2010
This was very tasty! Since my children are young I omitted the beer, which probably would have made this truly great and give it a little contrasting flavor. I added a pound of ground beef, which was overkill, so I would omit any additional meat or reduce the amount next time. I also cooked it longer to make it less soupy. I'll add some chard or leeks next time to add a few extra vitamins since this already packs in the protein.

Chewy Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2011
These brownies are fabulous! The texture is perfect--wonderfully moist and chewy, but also not too dense. I will use this as a basic brownie recipe in the future, but to be truly fudgy there needs to be more chocolate taste. I'll try substituting chocolate syrup for the corn syrup or adding some chocolate chips. Mine also needed 40 minutes to fully bake.

Hungarian Goulash III

Very good. Was a little sweet for my taste so I would omit the brown sugar next time.

Millionaire Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2011
I don't know what I did wrong but the filling did not set and ended up a gloppy mess that was practically impossible to serve. Has a yummy flavor, but not as delicious as I remembered. I plan on freezing the 2nd one and trying to serve it semi-frozen.
