Butterscotch Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2009
This recipe is a bit of a disappointment. I used an additional 2 cups Rice Krispies (2x the amount suggested) and probably could have added more.

Mini Cheesecakes

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
These are super easy to make and taste great. I baked two dozen and topped half cherry pie filling and the other half with blueberry pie filling. I added a rosette of whipped cream to each and put a tiny American flag pick on each one. They looked very cute on the table for election eve dessert. My guests raved about them. Just a perfect serving of cheesecake! Have your cream cheese and eggs at room temperature. This makes the mixing so much easier and will give you a smoother cheesecake.

Cathy's Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
I didn't like this banana bread as much as I expected to. I followed the recipe except that I added 10 minutes to the baking time. The bread is very moist, but the sour cream flavor seems to cancel out some of the banana flavor. My husband likes it well enough and it is good, just not great.

A-Number-1 Banana Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2008
Super easy to make and very good. I ended up baking it in a 10x13" Pyrex dish which required an extra 15 minutes in the oven. Very moist and delicious. No need to change a thing!

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2008
I've got to agree with all the other reviewers. THIS IS GREAT! This yummy apple crisp is a suitable dessert for any autumn dinner. I used my Cuisinart to blend the crust/topping. I put all the dry ingredients in the blender bowl. I then dropped pieces of butter in through the top with the blade running. Worked like a charm to create the best crust and topping. I suggest serving this warm with a generous scoop of good quality vanilla ice cream. Oh boy!

Chicago-Style Pan Pizza

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
This satisfied my craving for Chicago-style pizza. I drained the tomatoes very well and used a slotted spoon to transfer them to a mixing bowl. Then, added the other ingredients including minced garlic rather than the powder. I also used turkey Italian sausage. Serve with a salad and red wine. Perfecto!

Robbi's M&M Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2008
These cookies turned out great. I took the advice of others and used 1/2 cup shortening and 1/2 cup butter. I also used mini M&Ms because I find they make the dough easier to scoop than the regular sized candies. I baked the cookies for 9 minutes - perfection. The cookies that escaped being eaten immediately stayed slightly soft in the cookie jar. Thanks for a great cookie recipe.

Mmm-Mmm Better Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2008
I faithfully followed the recipe for these brownies except that I used an 8x8" pan because I don't have a larger one. The flavor and texture is great. I rated this a bit lower only because they turned out very thin despite using a smaller pan. Other than that minor disappointment, these turned out really well. I will bake them again but will double the recipe.

Grilled Bacon Jalapeno Wraps

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
HOT! I used a variety of spicy red, orange and green peppers for this recipe including jalapenos. I took the advice of other users and added some grated cheddar along with some granulated garlic. Slit the peppers down one side and use the tip of a sharp knife to clean out the seeds and ribs of the peppers. Wooded skewers were perfect for keeping the bacon securely wrapped. They cooked easily on the gas grill and were enjoyed by my family. I recommend using surgical gloves while working with peppers to avoid having any of the burning pepper on your hands afterward.

Peach Pie the Old Fashioned Two Crust Way

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
I baked two pies this weekend using this recipe. They each turned out great. I made a couple of changes based on the first try. In the second pie, I used about a tablespoon of cornstarch to thicken up the peach juice. I also added a half teaspoon of almond extract. The egg wash on the bottom crust was an idea I'd never tried and it worked perfectly. Peach pie lovers are going to appreciate this one.

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
The title of this recipe says it all. These muffins are like miniature loaves of banana bread. I was short on banana so I added a second egg. These are crunchy on the outside and densely yummy on the inside. They would be lovely to serve with a cup of coffee or tea.

Chocolate Zucchini Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
This turned out great. I shredded the squash in my Cuisinart. I followed the recipe as written and made two, nicely sized loaves. It might be fun to sub white chocolate chips next time.

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2008
My husband loves, loves, loves this bread. I followed the recipe except that I subbed a cup of turbinado sugar for one of the cups of white sugar. I added about 1/2 Cup of chopped walnuts for a bit of texutre. Great flavor. Yum.

Hummingbird Cake IV

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2008
We love this cake. I have made it before and it turned out great this time too. I ran out of granulated sugar so subbed some turbinado sugar. I also baked this in a 10" x 15" cake pan for about 30 minutes. I used buttercream frosting because I didn't have any cream cheese. I think this cake would be fine without any frosting if you want to save time and calories. This easily mixes up by hand. No need to break out the Kitchenaid.

Sweet Vidalia Onion Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2008
This is a simple recipe but the results are fabulous. I made the pie for a group picnic and it was a hit. I used Ritz crackers which were easily made in to crumbs in my Cuisinart. We don't get Vidalia onions up this way so I used Walla Walla sweets with excellent results. The pie had a mild onion flavor and was a perfect accompaniment to grilled meat. Non onion lovers enjoyed it as well. Give it a try.

Basic Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
This is a great, basic cream cheese frosting. It will complement many varieties of cake including carrot and rhubarb. I used it on Steve and Jesse's Strawberry Cake from this website. Just be sure your ingredients are at room temperature - this makes mixing much easier and you will have a creamier frosting.

Jesse and Steve's Fresh Strawberry Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2008
This turned out pretty well with a nice texture and not too sweet flavor. I used the ingredients as listed including the raw sugar. I followed the advice of others and used 1.5 cups of strawberries pureed in my Cuisinart. I also used the Cream Cheese Frosting II from this site. The results were pretty good. I was surprised at the relatively mild strawberry flavor considering the berries I used were quite flavorful. Give it a try.

Apple Cole Slaw

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2008
This is an interesting twist on cole slaw. It has a little extra crunch from the apples. We liked the sweetness of the brown sugar. Give this one a try for something a little drifferent.

White Texas Sheet Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
OK, you just can't beat this cake. It's quick to make, it tastes great and it serves a crowd. It's not real pretty to look at, but that's not always the goal of good cooking. I made the recipe as it is written, except that I used a chocolate icing from "Texas Sheetcake I" instead of the one in the recipe. This is one to add to your list of go-to cake recipes.
