About this Cook
I've always loved cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. I've been a stay at home mom for the past 11 years and have taken that opportunity to cook a variety of new dishes as well as some tried and true family recipes. I have 4 kids and a hubby who are good eaters but are very picky about what they eat. Cooking is only one of my many hobbies, and is also my most rewarding when it comes to the family.
My favorite things to cook
I like cooking in general and can't pick just one favorite thing to make. I think some of the more fun things to do are the ones i can get my kids involved in also.. like homemade perogies or fried knepfla, cookies, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a very german/ukrainian background. I can remember sitting with my Baba and making homemade everything!! From perogies to cabbage rolls to pickled beets. My Baba is the reason i love to cook. My grandma also cooked most of her things from scratch and although i do have some wonderful family recipes from her german background, her specialty was baking. I remember baking many many pies and cookies and squares with her and all the fun I had as a kid doing it. She's the reason I bake!
My cooking triumphs
I consider anything my picky family eats without complaining to be a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
i don't have many true tragedies when it comes to cooking. I have to admit though, the one thing i can never successfully do is bake a proper cake from scratch. For some reason they never turn out quite as fluffy and light and tasty as the box ones.. i always end up more with a thick heavy cake that no one really eats.

Chicago Style Roast Duck
This was definitely a good starter recipe for cooking duck. I didn't care much for the caraway seed.(not sure if it was taste or mostly texture)But the rest of my family loved this recipe. So second time around I made one like this and one minus the caraway. Both were gone quickly. Thank you for sharing!

World's Best Bacon Cheese Dip
I made a few changes to this. I used 1c. mayo, 1 package of cream cheese, 1c. sour cream, a bag of real bacon bits, 1 bunch of green onions, 1.5c. shredded cheddar cheese and a small tomato seeded and chopped. Baked it for 20 mins at 350 and served it with sour dough bread. The rest of the meal wasn't even touched, everyone filled up on this and cleaned the dish completely. Definitely a hit! Thanks for sharing! Definitely a recipe that can be played with to suit your family's taste.

Blueberry and Raspberry Pancake Topping
My husband and kids absolutely loved this topping. I found it to be a bit too sweet for my taste though. Next time, I will definitely make two separate batches, one with half the sweetness requested.
