I'm a student in Virginia, and I'm the main cook in a household of four.
My favorite things to cook
I really like asian-inspired foods. I like to mix things up with whole grains and lots of protein. The spicier it is, the more likley it is I will like it. If you add alcohol to it, it will probably taste better. Long live butter and olive oil.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I remember waking up to the smell of bacon and eggs and toast when I visited my great grandmother. Both sides of my family are pretty heavy on the traditional southern home-cooking. Meats for breakfast, fresh vegatables in summer. Scrapple, okra, tomatoes... yum!
My cooking triumphs
It was a triumph when I bought my probe thermometer. I've never had better roasts, and the guess and check is over. No more dried pork and chicken dishes!
My cooking tragedies
It's a tragedy when I don't use items in the kitchen before they go bad. I hate to be wastefull like that. I try to find a way to incorporate all leftovers and fresh ingredints in my cooking so that no produce or meat spoils, and I hate it when it does.
